Buying beds and mattresses used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to visit a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on various kinds for feel, comfort, support, and everything else which could offer a good night’s sleep. Sadly, as I am sure many of us have experienced, even those steps are not guarantees, since no amount of short-term testing can adequately replicate the lifestyles we live on our beds. Aside from spending a third of our days in that area, there’s also the matter of sharing beds with our partners, children, and pets; there is sleeping, but also playing, cradling, reading, mothers feeding, and so on.

For several decades, the really good mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you didn’t have the funds for it, you were stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress which eventually made you toss and turn at night or gave you back pains. I know, because this was my problem, and before the era of “it’s all on the world wide web,” there just were not that many options. Given what was available, I did not have anyone to vouch for every brand’s quality either.

Now, the game has completely changed with the addition of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered directly to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud has been around for some decades, but their 2019 product is what caught my attention. It’s a hybrid mattress that combines memory tech, foam, and coils — all of the things which make luxury beds — but at a reasonable price range, vacuum-packed into a box and sent straight to your houses.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned bed with 5 layers. Each layer serves a particular purpose, so I will get into detail below.

Cover

The entire mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It’s soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless sort of pillow-top that provides a cleaner look; but also serves to prevent shifting or losing its original shape like a traditional pillow top. The memory filling is quite dense, which makes it more durable than its dated counterpart. This outer top layer constitutes 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam that allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This constitutes another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the sensation of “sinking” into the mattress, which I’ve mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which helps in keeping cool on the bed. For those who, like me, often sleep hot in the course of the night, this is essential. The combination of the ventilated cover and the cooling makes a huge difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. DreamCloud Mattress Reviews Google

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing support and body to the mattress. This is particularly important for heavier people, to keep from sinking entirely into the bed. The medium firmness of the bed is attributable to this poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly leads to body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also serves as a separator for the coils underneath.

Pocketed Coils

Underneath the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to shift positions without difficulty and not feel “stuck.” Their unique pockets make it so they can move independently, reducing motion transfer, which is a consideration for people who share beds. In exactly the same vein, the coils are braced round the edges, strengthening the perimeter of this bed and maximizing the whole space without collapsing. The coils make up more than half of the bed’s composition at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very bottom of the mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the base.

Ratings by Feature DreamCloud Mattress Reviews Google

Now that we know what’s in a DreamCloud, let’s see how all its elements combine in a number of the attributes we look for in a bed. Everyone will have a different experience when it comes to discussions on stability, mobility, pressure relief, edge support, and motion transfer, since these features are determined by the person’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal evaluations, please be aware that I weigh roughly 120 pounds, and am a mix back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which were mostly caused by my previous bed of more than 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to observe that the bed had sagged considerably from the center section, and I had been sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of support and comfort that I am searching for. It’s firm enough to ensure that my spine is not compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I love.

I reiterate that if you are bigger and heavier than I am, it’s likely that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

Among my sleeping habits is also shifting a lot through the night. I am a combination sleeper and switch between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds which were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I attempted to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this was not a problem, and I could reposition easily, aided by a gentle bounce.

Stress Relief — 4 out of 5 DreamCloud Mattress Reviews Google

Different body parts exert various amounts of pressure when we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the mattress, especially for side sleepers. Being a hybrid , the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently alleviate more pressure in comparison to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils offer the support for my lower back. When I’m on my side, it’s comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle in the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I do not sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I tried it; so it may be the reverse in a sense that there wasn’t any pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I’m just not used to this position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

If you make full use of every inch of your mattress, you’d want to do it without rolling off its borders. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be rather good, but also noticed that it was better when lying down instead of when sitting on the edge, which may be due to the more even distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than in 1 spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was a tad worried that my dog and I’d be bouncing around the bed at each move we each made during our sleep, disturbing the other. I was impressed with how well the top layers padded and muffled our moves, even if my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs about 30 kg, so I am not sure how this could translate to sharing a bed with another adult human, but I am pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ DreamCloud Mattress Reviews Google

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Below are some FAQs for those with particular concerns.

Who’d enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so satisfied with it, but like I specified: I mostly sleep on my back and side, and would not recommend it for stomach sleepers. Those who tend to sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a fantastic option for its lavish Eurotop and memory materials that provide the sensation of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I haven’t had any pains to report.

How do I set up the DreamCloud?

It’ll be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you’re extremely strong, you will need some assistance. If you’re going to be using a bed frame or base, place the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you tear it open. You will not need box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the floor). Because of the coils, be prepared for some snap when it escapes its own container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adapt to its new space. That’s it!

What is the price range?

Depending on the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you are not in any hurry, you might want to wait for a promo, which they provide quite frequently on their site.

Is it a good investment? DreamCloud Mattress Reviews Google

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my age-old mattress. I estimate I’d have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a good investment in my book. Besides, for the luxurious sleep it has provided me in the past couple of weeks, it’s been more than worth the price.
