Dreamcloud-Review

Purchasing mattresses and beds used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to go to a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on different kinds for feel, comfort, support, and everything else that could provide a fantastic night’s sleep. Sadly, as I am sure many of us have experienced, even those measures are not guarantees, because no amount of short-term testing can satisfactorily replicate the lives we live on our beds. Apart from spending a third of our days in that area, there’s also the issue of sharing beds with our spouses, kids, and pets; there is sleeping, but also playing, cradling, reading, mothers feeding, and so on.

For many years, the really good mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you did not have the funds for it, you’re stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress that eventually made you toss and turn at night or gave you back pains. I know, since this was my problem, and before the era of “it’s all on the internet,” there just weren’t that many options. Given what was available, I didn’t have anyone to vouch for each brand’s quality .

Now, the game has completely changed with the introduction of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered directly to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud Mattress DreamCloud Construction

DreamCloud has existed for some decades, but their 2019 product really caught my attention. It is a hybrid mattress that combines memory technology, foam, and coils — all of the things which make luxury beds — but at a reasonable budget, vacuum-packed into a box and shipped straight to your houses.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned bed with 5 layers. Each layer serves a specific purpose, so I’ll get into detail below.

Cover

The whole mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It is soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless type of pillow-top that provides a cleaner look; but also serves to prevent shifting or losing its original shape like a conventional pillow top. The memory filling is quite compact, which makes it more durable than its obsolete counterpart. This outer top layer makes up 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam that allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This constitutes another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the sensation of “sinking” into the mattress, which I’ve mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which helps in keeping cool on the mattress. For those who, like me, tend to sleep hot in the course of the night, this is essential. The combination of the ventilated cover and the cooling makes a massive difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. DreamCloud Construction

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing support and body to the mattress. This is particularly important for heavier individuals, to keep from sinking completely into the bed. The moderate firmness of the bed is attributable to this poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly causes body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also serves as a separator for the coils underneath.

Pocketed Coils

Underneath the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to change positions without difficulty and not feel “stuck.” Their unique pockets make it so they can move independently, reducing motion transfer, which is a consideration for people who share beds. In the same vein, the coils are braced around the borders, strengthening the perimeter of the bed and maximizing the entire space without collapsing. The coils constitute more than half of the bed’s composition at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very bottom of this mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the base.

Ratings by Feature DreamCloud Construction

Now that we know what is in a DreamCloud, let’s see how all its components combine in a number of the attributes we look for in a bed. Everybody will have a different experience when it comes to talks on firmness, freedom, pressure relief, edge support, and movement transfer, since these features are determined by the individual’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal ratings, please note that I weigh roughly 120 lbs, and am a mix back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which have been mostly caused by my previous bed of over 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to notice that the bed had sagged considerably from the middle section, and I had been sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of support and comfort that I am searching for. It is firm enough to ensure that my spine isn’t compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I love.

I reiterate that if you’re larger and heavier than I am, it’s possible that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

One of my sleeping habits is also repositioning a lot through the night. I’m a combination sleeper and change between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds that were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I attempted to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this was not an issue, and I could reposition easily, aided by a mild bounce.

Pressure Relief — 4 out of 5 DreamCloud Construction

Different body parts exert various amounts of pressure once we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the bed, especially for side sleepers. Being a hybrid mattress, the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently relieve more pressure in comparison to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils provide the support for my lower back. When I’m on my side, it is comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle into the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I do not sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I attempted it; so it may be the reverse in a sense that there was no pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I’m just not used to this position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

Should you make full use of every inch of your bed, you’d want to do it without rolling off its borders. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be rather good, but also noted that it was better when lying down instead of when sitting on the edge, which might be due to the better distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than at one spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was somewhat worried that my dog and I would be bouncing around the mattress at each move we each made throughout our sleep, disturbing the other. I was impressed by how well the top layers cushioned and muffled our movements, even when my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs around 30 kg, so I’m not sure how this could translate to sharing a bed with another adult human, but I am pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ DreamCloud Construction

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Here are some FAQs for those with particular concerns.

Who’d enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so satisfied with it, but like I specified: I mostly sleep on my back and side, and would not recommend it for stomach sleepers. Those who tend to sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a fantastic alternative for its lavish Eurotop and memory substances that provide the feeling of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I have not had any pains to report.

How do I set up the DreamCloud?

It’ll be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you are extremely strong, you will need some assistance. If you’re going to be using a frame or base, place the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you rip it open. You will not require box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the floor). Because of the coils, be prepared for some snap as it escapes its container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adapt to its new area. That’s it!

What is the price range?

Depending upon the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you are not in any rush, you might want to await a discount, which they provide quite frequently on their site.

Is it a great investment? DreamCloud Construction

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my age-old mattress. I estimate I’d have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a great investment in my book. Besides, for the luxurious sleep it has provided me in the past couple of weeks, it’s been more than worth the price.
