Purchasing mattresses and beds used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to go to a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on different models for feel, comfort, support, and everything else which could offer a good night’s sleep. Sadly, as I am sure many of us have experienced, even those measures are not guarantees, since no amount of short-term testing can satisfactorily replicate the lifestyles we live on our beds. Aside from spending a third of our days in that area, there is also the issue of sharing beds with our partners, kids, and pets; there’s sleeping, but also playing, cradling, studying, mothers feeding, and so on.

For several years, the really excellent mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you didn’t have the funds for it, you’re stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress that later made you toss and turn at night or gave back pains. I know, because this was my problem, and before the era of “it’s all on the world wide web,” there just weren’t that many alternatives. Given what was available, I did not have anyone to vouch for every brand’s quality either.

Now, the game has completely changed with the introduction of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered right to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud Mattress DreamCloud Matresses Reviews

DreamCloud has existed for some years, but their 2019 product is what caught my attention. It’s a hybrid that combines memory technology, foam, and coils — all of the things which make luxury beds — but at an affordable price range, vacuum-packed into a box and sent straight to your homes.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned bed with 5 layers. Each layer serves a particular purpose, so I will get into detail below.

Cover

The whole mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It is soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless sort of pillow-top that gives a cleaner look; but also serves to prevent shifting or changing its original shape like a conventional pillow top. The memory filling is quite compact, which makes it more durable than its dated counterpart. This outer top layer constitutes 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam which allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This makes up another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the sensation of “sinking” into the mattress, which I’ve mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which helps in keeping cool on the mattress. For those who, like me, often sleep hot in the course of the night, this is vital. The combination of the ventilated cover and the cooling gel makes a massive difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. DreamCloud Matresses Reviews

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing support and body to the mattress. This is particularly important for heavier individuals, to keep from sinking entirely into the bed. The medium firmness of the bed is attributable to this poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly leads to body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also acts as a separator for the coils beneath.

Pocketed Coils

Underneath the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to change positions with ease and not feel “stuck.” Their unique pockets make it so that they can move independently, reducing movement transfer, which is a consideration for those who share beds. In the same vein, the coils are braced around the edges, strengthening the perimeter of this bed and maximizing the whole space without collapsing. The coils make up more than half of the bed’s composition at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very bottom of this mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the base.

Ratings by Feature DreamCloud Matresses Reviews

Now that we know what’s in a DreamCloud, let’s see how all its components combine in a number of the features we look for in a mattress. Everyone will have a different experience when it comes to discussions on firmness, freedom, pressure relief, edge support, and motion transfer, because these features are dependent on the person’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal evaluations, please be aware that I weigh about 120 pounds, and am a combination back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which have been mostly due to my previous bed of over 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to notice that the bed had sagged considerably in the middle section, and I was sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of comfort and support that I am searching for. It’s firm enough to make certain that my spine is not compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I love.

I reiterate that if you’re bigger and heavier than I am, it’s likely that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

Among my sleeping habits is also repositioning a lot through the night. I’m a combination sleeper and switch between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds which were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I tried to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this was not a problem, and I could reposition easily, aided by a mild bounce.

Stress Relief — 4 out of 5 DreamCloud Matresses Reviews

Different body parts exert different amounts of pressure when we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the bed, especially for side sleepers. Being a hybrid , the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently alleviate more pressure compared to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils offer the support for my lower back. When I am on my side, it is comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle in the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I do not sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I tried it; so it may be the reverse in a sense that there was no pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I am just not used to that position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

Should you make full use of every inch of your mattress, you would want to do it without falling off its borders. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be rather good, but also noted that it was better when lying down instead of when sitting on the edge, which may be attributed to the better distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than at one spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was somewhat worried that my puppy and I’d be bouncing around the bed at each move we made throughout our sleep, disturbing the other. I was pleasantly impressed with how well the top layers cushioned and muffled our movements, even when my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs around 30 kg, so I am not sure how this could translate to sharing a bed with another adult individual, but I am pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ DreamCloud Matresses Reviews

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Here are some FAQs for those of you with particular concerns.

Who’d enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so satisfied with it, but like I specifiedI mostly sleep on my back and side, and would not recommend it for stomach sleepers. People who tend to sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a fantastic option for its plush Eurotop and memory materials that give the sensation of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I have not had any pains to report.

How do I set up the DreamCloud?

It’ll be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you are extremely strong, you will need some assistance. If you’ll be using a bed frame or foundation, put the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you rip it open. You will not need box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the flooring ). Due to the coils, be ready for some snap when it escapes its container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adapt to its new space. That’s it!

What’s the price range?

Based on the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you are not in any rush, you might want to await a promo, which they provide quite frequently on their site.

Is it a great investment? DreamCloud Matresses Reviews

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my age-old mattress. I estimate I’d have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a great investment in my book. Besides, for the luxury sleep it has provided me in the last few weeks, it has been more than worth the price.
