Buying mattresses and beds used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to go to a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on different models for feel, comfort, support, and everything else which could provide a fantastic night’s sleep. Sadly, as I’m sure many of us have experienced, even those measures aren’t guarantees, because no amount of short-term testing can adequately replicate the lifestyles we live on our beds. Aside from spending a third of our days in that area, there’s also the matter of sharing beds with our partners, kids, and pets; there’s sleeping, but also playing, cradling, reading, moms feeding, and so on.

For many decades, the really good mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you didn’t have the funds for it, you were stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress that eventually made you toss and turn at night or gave you back pains. I know, since this was my problem, and before the era of “everything is on the world wide web,” there just were not that many options. Given what was available, I didn’t have anyone to vouch for each brand’s quality .

Now, the game has completely changed with the addition of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered right to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud Mattress DreamCloud Amazon Reviews

DreamCloud has existed for some years, but their 2019 product really caught my attention. It is a hybrid that combines memory tech, foam, and coils — all of the things which make luxury beds — but at a reasonable budget, vacuum-packed into a box and sent straight to your homes.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned bed with 5 layers. Each layer serves a specific purpose, so I’ll get into detail below.

Cover

The whole mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It is soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless sort of pillow-top that gives a cleaner look; but also functions to prevent shifting or changing its original shape like a conventional pillow top. The memory filling is quite compact, making it more durable than its obsolete counterpart. This outer top layer constitutes 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam which allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This constitutes another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the feeling of “sinking” into the bed, which I have mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which really helps in keeping cool on the mattress. For those who, like me, often sleep hot in the course of the night, this is vital. The combination of the ventilated cover and the cooling makes a huge difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. DreamCloud Amazon Reviews

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing support and body to the mattress. This is especially important for heavier individuals, to keep from sinking completely into the bed. The moderate firmness of the bed is attributable to the poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly leads to body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also serves as a separator for the coils beneath.

Pocketed Coils

Under the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to shift positions without difficulty and not feel “stuck.” Their individual pockets make it so that they can move independently, reducing movement transfer, which is a consideration for people who share beds. In exactly the same vein, the coils are braced around the borders, strengthening the perimeter of this bed and maximizing the whole space without collapsing. The coils make up more than half of the mattress’s makeup at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very base of this mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the foundation.

Ratings by Feature DreamCloud Amazon Reviews

Now that we know what is in a DreamCloud, let’s see how all its elements combine in some of the features we look for in a bed. Everyone will have a different experience when it comes to talks on stability, mobility, pressure relief, edge support, and motion transfer, since these features are determined by the person’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal evaluations, please note that I weigh about 120 lbs, and am a mix back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which were mostly due to my previous bed of more than 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to observe that the mattress had sagged considerably from the center section, and I had been sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of support and comfort that I am searching for. It’s firm enough to make certain that my spine isn’t compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I love.

I reiterate that if you’re larger and heavier than I am, it’s possible that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

One of my sleeping habits is also shifting a lot through the evening. I’m a combination sleeper and switch between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds that were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I attempted to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this was not a problem, and I could reposition easily, aided by a gentle bounce.

Pressure Relief — 4 out of 5 DreamCloud Amazon Reviews

Different body parts exert various amounts of pressure when we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the bed, particularly for side sleepers. Being a hybrid , the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently alleviate more pressure in comparison to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils offer the support for my lower back. When I am on my side, it’s comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle in the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I do not sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I attempted it; so it can be the opposite in a sense that there wasn’t any pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I am simply not used to this position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

Should you make full use of every inch of your bed, you’d want to do it without rolling off its borders. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be rather good, but also noticed that it was better when lying down instead of when sitting on the edge, which might be attributed to the better distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than in one spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was a tad worried that my dog and I would be bouncing around the bed at each move we each made throughout our sleep, disturbing the other. I was impressed with how well the top layers cushioned and muffled our movements, even if my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs around 30 kg, so I am not sure how this would translate to sharing a bed with another adult human, but I am pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ DreamCloud Amazon Reviews

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Here are some FAQs for those with particular concerns.

Who would enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so satisfied with it, but like I specifiedI mostly sleep on my side and back, and would not recommend it for stomach sleepers. People who often sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those persons who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a good alternative for its plush Eurotop and memory materials that give the sensation of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I haven’t had any pains to report.

How do I set up the DreamCloud?

It is going to be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you are extremely strong, you’ll need some assistance. If you’re going to be using a bed frame or base, put the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you tear it open. You will not need box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the flooring ). Because of the coils, be ready for some snap as it escapes its container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adjust to its new space. That’s it!

What’s the price range?

Based upon the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you are not in any hurry, you might want to await a promo, which they provide quite frequently on their site.

Is it a good investment? DreamCloud Amazon Reviews

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my age-old mattress. I estimate I’d have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a great investment in my book. Besides, for the luxurious sleep it’s provided me in the last couple of weeks, it has been more than worth the cost.
