Dreamcloud-Review

Buying mattresses and beds used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to go to a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on various models for feel, comfort, support, and everything else that could provide a good night’s sleep. Sadly, as I am sure many of us have experienced, even those measures aren’t guarantees, since no amount of short-term testing can satisfactorily replicate the lifestyles we live on our beds. Aside from spending a third of our days in that space, there’s also the issue of sharing beds with our partners, children, and pets; there’s sleeping, but also playing, cradling, studying, mothers feeding, and so on.

For many decades, the really excellent mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you didn’t have the budget for it, you were stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress which eventually made you toss and turn at night or gave you back pains. I know, since this was my issue, and before the era of “it’s all on the internet,” there just were not that many alternatives. Given what was available, I did not have anyone to vouch for each brand’s quality .

Now, the game has completely changed with the addition of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered right to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name alone doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud Mattress Try DreamCloud Mattress

DreamCloud has existed for some decades, but their 2019 product really caught my attention. It’s a hybrid that combines memory tech, foam, and coils — all the things that make luxury beds — but at an affordable price range, vacuum-packed into a box and shipped straight to your homes.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned mattress with 5 layers. Each layer serves a specific purpose, so I’ll get into detail below.

Cover

The entire mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It’s soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless type of pillow-top that provides a cleaner look; but also serves to prevent shifting or changing its original shape like a traditional pillow top. The memory filling is quite dense, making it more durable than its dated counterpart. This outer top layer constitutes 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam that allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This constitutes another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the feeling of “sinking” into the mattress, which I have mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which really helps in keeping cool on the mattress. For those who, like me, often sleep hot in the course of the night, this is vital. The combination of the ventilated cover along with the cooling makes a massive difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. Try DreamCloud Mattress

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing body and support to the mattress. This is especially important for heavier individuals, to keep from sinking entirely into the bed. The medium firmness of the bed is attributable to the poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly causes body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also serves as a separator for the coils beneath.

Pocketed Coils

Underneath the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to shift positions with ease and not feel “stuck.” Their unique pockets make it so that they can move independently, reducing motion transfer, which is a consideration for people who share beds. In exactly the same vein, the coils are braced around the borders, strengthening the perimeter of this bed and maximizing the entire space without collapsing. The coils constitute more than half of the bed’s makeup at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very bottom of the mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the foundation.

Ratings by Feature Try DreamCloud Mattress

Now that we know what is in a DreamCloud, let us see how all its components combine in a number of the attributes we look for in a bed. Everyone will have a different experience when it comes to discussions on firmness, mobility, pressure relief, edge support, and motion transfer, since these features are determined by the individual’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal evaluations, please be aware that I weigh roughly 120 pounds, and am a mix back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which have been largely due to my previous bed of over 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to observe that the bed had sagged considerably in the center section, and I was sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of support and comfort that I am searching for. It is firm enough to ensure that my spine is not compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I love.

I reiterate that if you’re larger and heavier than I am, it is likely that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

Among my sleeping habits is also shifting a lot through the evening. I’m a combination sleeper and switch between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds which were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I attempted to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this wasn’t a problem, and I could reposition easily, aided by a mild bounce.

Pressure Relief — 4 out of 5 Try DreamCloud Mattress

Different body parts exert various amounts of pressure when we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the bed, particularly for side sleepers. Being a hybrid , the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently relieve more pressure compared to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils offer the support for my lower back. When I’m on my side, it’s comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle in the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I don’t sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I tried it; so it can be the opposite in a sense that there was no pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I am just not used to this position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

Should you make full use of every inch of your mattress, you would want to do it without falling off its edges. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be quite good, but also noticed that it was better when lying down instead of when sitting on the edge, which might be attributed to the better distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than at one spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was somewhat worried that my dog and I would be bouncing around the mattress at each move we made throughout our sleep, disturbing the other. I was impressed by how well the top layers cushioned and muffled our moves, even when my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs around 30 kg, so I am not sure how this could translate to sharing a bed with another adult human, but I am pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ Try DreamCloud Mattress

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Here are some FAQs for those of you with particular concerns.

Who’d enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so satisfied with it, but like I specified: I mostly sleep on my side and back, and would not recommend it for stomach sleepers. People who often sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those persons who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a good option for its plush Eurotop and memory materials that provide the feeling of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I have not had any pains to report.

How do I set up the DreamCloud?

It is going to be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you’re extremely strong, you’ll need some assistance. If you’ll be using a frame or foundation, place the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you rip it open. You will not require box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the flooring ). Due to the coils, be ready for some snap as it escapes its own container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adapt to its new area. That’s it!

What is the price range?

Depending upon the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you’re not in any hurry, you might want to await a discount, which they provide quite frequently on their website.

Is it a good investment? Try DreamCloud Mattress

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my age-old mattress. I estimate I’d have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a good investment in my book. Besides, for the luxury sleep it has provided me in the past couple of weeks, it has been more than worth the cost.
