Setting Up DreamCloud Mattress

Dreamcloud-Review

Purchasing beds and mattresses used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to go to a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on different models for feel, comfort, support, and everything else that could offer a fantastic night’s sleep. Sadly, as I’m sure many people have experienced, even those steps aren’t guarantees, because no amount of short-term testing can satisfactorily replicate the lives we live on our beds. Aside from spending a third of our days in that space, there is also the matter of sharing beds with our partners, children, and pets; there’s sleeping, but also playing, cradling, studying, moms feeding, and so on.

For several years, the really good mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you didn’t have the budget for it, you’re stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress which later made you toss and turn at night or gave you back pains. I know, because this was my issue, and before the era of “everything is on the internet,” there just weren’t that many alternatives. Given what was available, I did not have anyone to vouch for each brand’s quality either.

Now, the game has completely changed with the addition of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered right to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud Mattress Setting Up DreamCloud Mattress

DreamCloud has existed for some years, but their 2019 product is what caught my attention. It is a hybrid that combines memory tech, foam, and coils — all of the things which make luxury beds — but at an affordable budget, vacuum-packed into a box and shipped straight to your houses.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned mattress with 5 layers. Each layer serves a specific purpose, so I’ll get into detail below.

Cover

The whole mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It is soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless sort of pillow-top that provides a cleaner look; but also functions to prevent shifting or changing its original shape like a traditional pillow top. The memory filling is quite compact, which makes it more durable than its dated counterpart. This outer top layer makes up 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam which allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This constitutes another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the feeling of “sinking” into the bed, which I’ve mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which really helps in keeping cool on the bed. For those who, like me, tend to sleep hot in the course of the night, this is vital. The combination of the ventilated cover and the cooling makes a massive difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. Setting Up DreamCloud Mattress

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing support and body to the mattress. This is especially important for heavier people, to keep from sinking entirely into the bed. The medium firmness of the bed is attributable to this poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly leads to body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also acts as a separator for the coils underneath.

Pocketed Coils

Under the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to change positions without difficulty and not feel “stuck.” Their unique pockets make it so that they can react independently, reducing motion transfer, which is a consideration for those who share beds. In the same vein, the coils are braced round the edges, strengthening the perimeter of this bed and maximizing the entire space without collapsing. The coils constitute more than half of the bed’s composition at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very bottom of the mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the base.

Ratings by Feature Setting Up DreamCloud Mattress

Now that we know what is in a DreamCloud, let us see how all its elements combine in a number of the features we look for in a mattress. Everyone will have a different experience when it comes to talks on stability, mobility, pressure relief, edge support, and motion transfer, because these features are determined by the individual’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal ratings, please note that I weigh roughly 120 lbs, and am a combination back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which were mostly caused by my previous bed of over 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to observe that the mattress had sagged considerably from the center section, and I had been sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of comfort and support that I’m searching for. It’s firm enough to ensure that my spine is not compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I adore.

I reiterate that if you’re bigger and heavier than I am, it is likely that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

Among my sleeping habits is also repositioning a lot during the evening. I am a combination sleeper and switch between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds that were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I tried to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this was not a problem, and I could reposition easily, aided by a gentle bounce.

Stress Relief — 4 out of 5 Setting Up DreamCloud Mattress

Different body parts exert various amounts of pressure when we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the mattress, especially for side sleepers. Being a hybrid mattress, the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently relieve more pressure compared to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils offer the support for my lower back. When I’m on my side, it is comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle into the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I do not sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I tried it; so it can be the reverse in a sense that there was no pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I’m simply not used to that position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

If you make full use of every inch of your mattress, you’d want to do it without rolling off its edges. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be quite good, but also noticed that it was better when lying down rather than when sitting on the edge, which might be due to the better distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than in 1 spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was somewhat worried that my dog and I would be bouncing around the bed at every move we made during our sleep, disturbing the other. I was pleasantly impressed by how well the top layers cushioned and muffled our movements, even if my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs around 30 kg, so I’m not sure how this would translate to sharing a bed with another adult individual, but I am pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ Setting Up DreamCloud Mattress

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Here are some FAQs for those of you with particular concerns.

Who would enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so happy with it, but like I specified: I mostly sleep on my back and side, and wouldn’t recommend it for stomach sleepers. Those who often sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those persons who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a good alternative for its lavish Eurotop and memory materials that give the feeling of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I have not had any pains to report.

How do I install the DreamCloud?

It’ll be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you’re extremely strong, you will need some assistance. If you’ll be using a bed frame or foundation, place the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you rip it open. You will not need box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the flooring ). Because of the coils, be prepared for some snap as it escapes its container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adjust to its new area. That’s it!

What’s the price range?

Depending on the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you are not in any hurry, you may want to wait for a promo, which they provide quite frequently on their website.

Is it a great investment? Setting Up DreamCloud Mattress

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my age-old mattress. I estimate I’d have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a good investment in my book. Besides, for the luxury sleep it has provided me in the last few weeks, it’s been more than worth the cost.
