Dreamcloud-Review

Purchasing mattresses and beds used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to visit a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on various models for feel, comfort, support, and everything else that could offer a fantastic night’s sleep. Sadly, as I’m sure many people have experienced, even those steps aren’t guarantees, since no amount of short-term testing can satisfactorily replicate the lives we live on our beds. Apart from spending a third of our days in that area, there’s also the matter of sharing beds with our partners, kids, and pets; there is sleeping, but also playing, cradling, studying, moms feeding, and so on.

For many years, the really excellent mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you did not have the budget for it, you were stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress that eventually made you toss and turn at night or gave back pains. I know, because this was my issue, and before the era of “it’s all on the internet,” there just weren’t that many options. Given what was available, I did not have anyone to vouch for each brand’s quality either.

Now, the game has completely changed with the addition of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered right to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud has been around for some decades, but their 2019 product is what caught my attention. It is a hybrid mattress that combines memory technology, foam, and coils — all the things that make luxury beds — but at a reasonable budget, vacuum-packed into a box and shipped straight to your homes.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned mattress with 5 layers. Each layer serves a specific purpose, so I’ll get into detail below.

Cover

The whole mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It’s soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless sort of pillow-top that gives a cleaner look; but also serves to prevent shifting or losing its original shape like a conventional pillow top. The memory filling is quite dense, which makes it more durable than its dated counterpart. This outer top layer constitutes 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam which allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This constitutes another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the sensation of “sinking” into the bed, which I have mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which helps in keeping cool on the bed. For those who, like me, often sleep hot in the course of the night, this is vital. The combination of the ventilated cover and the cooling makes a huge difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. Pictures of DreamCloud Mattress With Sheets on It

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing body and support to the mattress. This is especially important for heavier individuals, to keep from sinking completely into the bed. The moderate firmness of the bed is attributable to this poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly leads to body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also acts as a separator for the coils beneath.

Pocketed Coils

Under the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to change positions without difficulty and not feel “stuck.” Their individual pockets make it so they can move independently, reducing motion transfer, which is a consideration for those who share beds. In exactly the same vein, the coils are braced round the borders, strengthening the perimeter of this bed and maximizing the whole space without collapsing. The coils make up more than half of the bed’s composition at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very base of the mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the foundation.

Ratings by Feature Pictures of DreamCloud Mattress With Sheets on It

Now that we know what is in a DreamCloud, let us see how all its elements combine in some of the attributes we look for in a bed. Everyone will have a different experience when it comes to talks on stability, mobility, pressure relief, edge support, and motion transfer, since these features are dependent on the person’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal evaluations, please be aware that I weigh roughly 120 pounds, and am a combination back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which have been largely due to my previous bed of more than 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to observe that the mattress had sagged considerably from the middle section, and I was sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of support and comfort that I am looking for. It is firm enough to ensure that my spine isn’t compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I adore.

I reiterate that if you’re bigger and heavier than I am, it’s likely that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

Among my sleeping habits is also shifting a lot during the night. I’m a combination sleeper and switch between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds that were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I tried to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this was not an issue, and I could reposition easily, aided by a mild bounce.

Stress Relief — 4 out of 5 Pictures of DreamCloud Mattress With Sheets on It

Different body parts exert different amounts of pressure once we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the bed, especially for side sleepers. Being a hybrid mattress, the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently alleviate more pressure compared to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils provide the support for my lower back. When I’m on my side, it is comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle into the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I don’t sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I attempted it; so it may be the reverse in a sense that there was no pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I’m simply not used to that position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

If you make full use of every inch of your bed, you’d want to do it without falling off its edges. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be quite good, but also noted that it was better when lying down instead of when sitting on the edge, which might be attributed to the better distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than in one spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was a tad worried that my puppy and I’d be bouncing around the mattress at each move we each made during our sleep, disturbing the other. I was pleasantly impressed by how well the top layers padded and muffled our movements, even if my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs around 30 kg, so I’m not sure how this could translate to sharing a bed with another adult individual, but I am pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ Pictures of DreamCloud Mattress With Sheets on It

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Below are some FAQs for those of you with particular concerns.

Who would enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so satisfied with it, but like I specifiedI mostly sleep on my back and side, and would not recommend it for stomach sleepers. Those who often sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those persons who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a fantastic option for its plush Eurotop and memory substances that provide the feeling of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I have not had any pains to report.

How do I set up the DreamCloud?

It’ll be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you are extremely strong, you’ll need some assistance. If you’re going to be using a frame or base, put the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you rip it open. You will not require box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the flooring ). Due to the coils, be prepared for some snap as it escapes its container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adapt to its new space. That’s it!

What is the price range?

Depending upon the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you’re not in any rush, you may want to await a discount, which they offer quite frequently on their website.

Is it a great investment? Pictures of DreamCloud Mattress With Sheets on It

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my age-old mattress. I estimate I would have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a good investment in my book. Besides, for the luxury sleep it has provided me in the past few weeks, it has been more than worth the price.
