Mattress DreamCloud

Dreamcloud-Review

Purchasing mattresses and beds used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to visit a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on various kinds for feel, comfort, support, and everything else that could offer a fantastic night’s sleep. Sadly, as I am sure many of us have experienced, even those steps aren’t guarantees, since no amount of short-term testing can adequately replicate the lives we live on our beds. Apart from spending a third of our days in that space, there is also the matter of sharing beds with our partners, children, and pets; there’s sleeping, but also playing, cradling, studying, moms feeding, and so on.

For several years, the really excellent mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you didn’t have the funds for it, you’re stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress which later made you toss and turn at night or gave back pains. I know, since this was my issue, and before the era of “it’s all on the internet,” there just weren’t that many options. Given what was available, I didn’t have anyone to vouch for each brand’s quality .

Now, the game has completely changed with the addition of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered right to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name alone doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud Mattress Mattress DreamCloud

DreamCloud has existed for some years, but their 2019 product is what caught my attention. It’s a hybrid mattress that combines memory technology, foam, and coils — all of the things which make luxury beds — but at an affordable price range, vacuum-packed into a box and shipped straight to your houses.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned bed with 5 layers. Each layer serves a particular purpose, so I will get into detail below.

Cover

The whole mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It is soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless type of pillow-top that provides a cleaner look; but also functions to prevent shifting or changing its original shape like a conventional pillow top. The memory filling is quite dense, which makes it more durable than its obsolete counterpart. This outer top layer makes up 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam which allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This makes up another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the feeling of “sinking” into the mattress, which I have mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which really helps in keeping cool on the mattress. For those who, like me, often sleep hot in the course of the night, this is vital. The combination of the ventilated cover along with the cooling makes a massive difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. Mattress DreamCloud

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing body and support to the mattress. This is particularly important for heavier people, to keep from sinking entirely into the bed. The medium firmness of the bed is attributable to the poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly causes body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also serves as a separator for the coils beneath.

Pocketed Coils

Underneath the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to shift positions with ease and not feel “stuck.” Their individual pockets make it so that they can react independently, reducing movement transfer, which is a consideration for people who share beds. In exactly the same vein, the coils are braced round the borders, strengthening the perimeter of this bed and maximizing the whole space without collapsing. The coils make up more than half of the mattress’s makeup at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very bottom of this mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the base.

Ratings by Feature Mattress DreamCloud

Now that we know what is in a DreamCloud, let us see how all its elements combine in a number of the attributes we look for in a bed. Everyone will have a different experience when it comes to talks on stability, mobility, pressure relief, edge support, and movement transfer, because these features are determined by the person’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal evaluations, please be aware that I weigh about 120 lbs, and am a combination back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which were mostly due to my previous bed of over 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to notice that the bed had sagged considerably from the center section, and I had been sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of comfort and support that I’m looking for. It’s firm enough to ensure that my spine isn’t compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I adore.

I reiterate that if you are larger and heavier than I am, it’s possible that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

One of my sleeping habits is also repositioning a lot during the night. I am a combination sleeper and switch between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds which were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I tried to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this was not a problem, and I could reposition easily, aided by a mild bounce.

Stress Relief — 4 out of 5 Mattress DreamCloud

Different body parts exert different amounts of pressure once we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the mattress, particularly for side sleepers. Being a hybrid mattress, the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently relieve more pressure compared to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils provide the support for my lower back. When I’m on my side, it’s comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle in the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I do not sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I attempted it; so it may be the opposite in a sense that there wasn’t any pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I am just not used to this position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

If you make full use of every inch of your mattress, you would want to do it without rolling off its borders. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be rather good, but also noted that it was better when lying down rather than when sitting on the edge, which might be attributed to the more even distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than at 1 spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was a tad worried that my puppy and I would be bouncing around the bed at each move we made during our sleep, disturbing the other. I was impressed with how well the top layers padded and muffled our moves, even if my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs around 30 kg, so I’m not sure how this could translate to sharing a bed with another adult human, but I’m pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ Mattress DreamCloud

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Here are some FAQs for those with particular concerns.

Who would enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so happy with it, but like I specifiedI mostly sleep on my side and back, and wouldn’t recommend it for stomach sleepers. Those who often sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a fantastic option for its plush Eurotop and memory materials that give the sensation of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I have not had any pains to report.

How do I install the DreamCloud?

It is going to be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you’re extremely strong, you will need some assistance. If you’ll be using a frame or base, put the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you rip it open. You will not need box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the floor). Because of the coils, be prepared for some snap as it escapes its container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adapt to its new space. That’s it!

What is the price range?

Depending on the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you’re not in any rush, you may want to wait for a discount, which they provide quite frequently on their site.

Is it a great investment? Mattress DreamCloud

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my age-old mattress. I estimate I would have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a great investment in my book. Besides, for the luxury sleep it’s provided me in the past couple of weeks, it’s been more than worth the price.
