Is DreamCloud Worth It

Dreamcloud-Review

Purchasing mattresses and beds used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to visit a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on various models for feel, comfort, support, and everything else that could provide a good night’s sleep. Sadly, as I am sure many people have experienced, even those measures aren’t guarantees, since no amount of short-term testing can adequately replicate the lifestyles we live on our beds. Apart from spending a third of our days in that space, there’s also the issue of sharing beds with our partners, kids, and pets; there is sleeping, but also playing, cradling, reading, mothers feeding, etc.

For many years, the really good mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you did not have the budget for it, you’re stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress which later made you toss and turn at night or gave you back pains. I know, since this was my problem, and before the era of “everything is on the internet,” there just were not that many alternatives. Given what was available, I didn’t have anyone to vouch for every brand’s quality .

Now, the game has completely changed with the introduction of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered right to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name alone doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud Mattress Is DreamCloud Worth It

DreamCloud has existed for some decades, but their 2019 product is what caught my attention. It is a hybrid that combines memory tech, foam, and coils — all of the things that make luxury beds — but at a reasonable price range, vacuum-packed into a box and shipped straight to your homes.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned mattress with 5 layers. Each layer serves a particular purpose, so I’ll get into detail below.

Cover

The entire mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It is soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless type of pillow-top that gives a cleaner look; but also serves to prevent shifting or changing its original shape like a conventional pillow top. The memory filling is quite dense, making it more durable than its obsolete counterpart. This outer top layer makes up 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam that allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This makes up another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the sensation of “sinking” into the bed, which I’ve mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which really helps in keeping cool on the mattress. For those who, like me, tend to sleep hot in the course of the night, this is essential. The combination of the ventilated cover along with the cooling makes a huge difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. Is DreamCloud Worth It

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing body and support to the mattress. This is especially important for heavier individuals, to keep from sinking entirely into the bed. The medium firmness of the bed is attributable to the poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly leads to body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also serves as a separator for the coils underneath.

Pocketed Coils

Under the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to change positions with ease and not feel “stuck.” Their individual pockets make it so that they can move independently, reducing movement transfer, which is a consideration for those who share beds. In exactly the same vein, the coils are braced round the edges, strengthening the perimeter of this bed and maximizing the whole space without collapsing. The coils constitute more than half of the bed’s composition at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very bottom of this mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the foundation.

Ratings by Feature Is DreamCloud Worth It

Now that we know what is in a DreamCloud, let us see how all its elements combine in a number of the attributes we look for in a mattress. Everyone will have a different experience when it comes to talks on stability, mobility, pressure relief, edge support, and movement transfer, because these features are determined by the person’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal ratings, please be aware that I weigh roughly 120 lbs, and am a combination back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which have been largely due to my previous bed of over 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to notice that the mattress had sagged considerably from the middle section, and I had been sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of comfort and support that I am looking for. It is firm enough to make certain that my spine is not compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I love.

I reiterate that if you’re bigger and heavier than I am, it’s possible that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

One of my sleeping habits is also repositioning a lot through the night. I am a combination sleeper and change between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds which were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I attempted to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this wasn’t an issue, and I could reposition easily, aided by a mild bounce.

Stress Relief — 4 out of 5 Is DreamCloud Worth It

Different body parts exert different amounts of pressure when we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the bed, particularly for side sleepers. Being a hybrid mattress, the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently alleviate more pressure in comparison to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils provide the support for my lower back. When I am on my side, it is comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle in the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I do not sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I tried it; so it can be the opposite in a sense that there wasn’t any pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I am simply not used to this position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

Should you make full use of every inch of your bed, you’d want to do it without rolling off its edges. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be quite good, but also noticed that it was better when lying down instead of when sitting on the edge, which might be attributed to the better distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than in 1 spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was somewhat worried that my puppy and I would be bouncing around the mattress at each move we made during our sleep, disturbing the other. I was impressed with how well the top layers cushioned and muffled our movements, even if my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs about 30 kg, so I’m not sure how this could translate to sharing a bed with another adult individual, but I’m pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ Is DreamCloud Worth It

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Here are some FAQs for those with particular concerns.

Who’d enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so satisfied with it, but like I specified: I mostly sleep on my side and back, and wouldn’t recommend it for stomach sleepers. Those who often sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a fantastic option for its lavish Eurotop and memory materials that give the sensation of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I have not had any pains to report.

How do I set up the DreamCloud?

It is going to be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you are extremely strong, you’ll need some assistance. If you’re going to be using a frame or base, place the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you tear it open. You will not require box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the flooring ). Because of the coils, be ready for some snap when it escapes its container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adjust to its new space. That’s it!

What’s the price range?

Based on the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you’re not in any hurry, you may want to wait for a discount, which they provide quite frequently on their website.

Is it a good investment? Is DreamCloud Worth It

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my old fashioned mattress. I estimate I’d have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a good investment in my book. Besides, for the luxury sleep it’s provided me in the past few weeks, it has been more than worth the price.
