Dreamcloud-Review

Buying beds and mattresses used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to visit a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on different kinds for feel, comfort, support, and everything else that could offer a good night’s sleep. Sadly, as I’m sure many people have experienced, even those steps are not guarantees, since no amount of short-term testing can satisfactorily replicate the lifestyles we live on our beds. Aside from spending a third of our days in that space, there is also the matter of sharing beds with our spouses, kids, and pets; there’s sleeping, but also playing, cradling, reading, mothers feeding, etc.

For many years, the really excellent mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you didn’t have the funds for it, you were stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress which later made you toss and turn at night or gave you back pains. I know, since this was my problem, and before the era of “everything is on the internet,” there just were not that many options. Given what was available, I did not have anyone to vouch for every brand’s quality either.

Now, the game has completely changed with the addition of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered right to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud has existed for some decades, but their 2019 product is what caught my attention. It’s a hybrid mattress that combines memory technology, foam, and coils — all of the things which make luxury beds — but at an affordable budget, vacuum-packed into a box and sent straight to your houses.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned bed with 5 layers. Each layer serves a particular purpose, so I’ll get into detail below.

Cover

The entire mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It’s soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless type of pillow-top that gives a cleaner look; but also serves to prevent shifting or changing its original shape like a traditional pillow top. The memory filling is quite dense, making it more durable than its dated counterpart. This outer top layer makes up 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam that allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This makes up another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the feeling of “sinking” into the mattress, which I have mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which helps in keeping cool on the bed. For those who, like me, tend to sleep hot in the course of the night, this is essential. The combination of the ventilated cover and the cooling makes a huge difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. How Much Does a DreamCloud Mattress Weight

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing body and support to the mattress. This is particularly important for heavier people, to keep from sinking entirely into the bed. The medium firmness of the bed is attributable to this poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly leads to body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also serves as a separator for the coils beneath.

Pocketed Coils

Under the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to change positions with ease and not feel “stuck.” Their individual pockets make it so they can react independently, reducing movement transfer, which is a consideration for people who share beds. In exactly the same vein, the coils are braced round the borders, strengthening the perimeter of this bed and maximizing the entire space without collapsing. The coils constitute more than half of the mattress’s makeup at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very bottom of this mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the foundation.

Ratings by Feature How Much Does a DreamCloud Mattress Weight

Now that we know what is in a DreamCloud, let us see how all its components combine in some of the features we look for in a mattress. Everybody will have a different experience when it comes to discussions on stability, mobility, pressure relief, edge support, and motion transfer, since these features are dependent on the individual’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal evaluations, please be aware that I weigh roughly 120 lbs, and am a combination back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which have been mostly caused by my previous bed of more than 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to notice that the mattress had sagged considerably from the center section, and I had been sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of support and comfort that I’m searching for. It’s firm enough to make certain that my spine is not compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I adore.

I reiterate that if you are larger and heavier than I am, it is possible that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

Among my sleeping habits is also repositioning a lot during the evening. I’m a combination sleeper and change between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds which were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I attempted to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this was not a problem, and I could reposition easily, aided by a mild bounce.

Pressure Relief — 4 out of 5 How Much Does a DreamCloud Mattress Weight

Different body parts exert different amounts of pressure once we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the mattress, especially for side sleepers. Being a hybrid mattress, the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently alleviate more pressure in comparison to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils offer the support for my lower back. When I’m on my side, it’s comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle in the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I don’t sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I attempted it; so it can be the opposite in a sense that there was no pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I’m simply not used to that position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

If you make full use of every inch of your bed, you’d want to do it without rolling off its borders. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be rather good, but also noted that it was better when lying down rather than when sitting on the edge, which may be due to the more even distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than at 1 spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was a tad worried that my dog and I’d be bouncing around the bed at every move we each made throughout our sleep, disturbing the other. I was pleasantly impressed with how well the top layers cushioned and muffled our movements, even if my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs around 30 kg, so I am not sure how this could translate to sharing a bed with another adult individual, but I’m pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ How Much Does a DreamCloud Mattress Weight

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Here are some FAQs for those with particular concerns.

Who would enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so satisfied with it, but like I specifiedI mostly sleep on my side and back, and wouldn’t recommend it for stomach sleepers. People who tend to sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a fantastic alternative for its plush Eurotop and memory materials that give the feeling of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I haven’t had any pains to report.

How do I install the DreamCloud?

It is going to be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you’re extremely strong, you will need some assistance. If you’ll be using a frame or base, place the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you tear it open. You will not require box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the flooring ). Due to the coils, be ready for some snap as it escapes its container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adapt to its new space. That’s it!

What’s the price range?

Depending on the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you are not in any hurry, you might want to wait for a discount, which they offer quite frequently on their website.

Is it a great investment? How Much Does a DreamCloud Mattress Weight

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my old fashioned mattress. I estimate I would have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a good investment in my book. Besides, for the luxury sleep it’s provided me in the last few weeks, it’s been more than worth the price.
