Dreamcloud-Review

Buying beds and mattresses used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to go to a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on various kinds for feel, comfort, support, and everything else which could offer a fantastic night’s sleep. Sadly, as I’m sure many people have experienced, even those measures aren’t guarantees, since no amount of short-term testing can adequately replicate the lives we live on our beds. Apart from spending a third of our days in that space, there is also the matter of sharing beds with our spouses, kids, and pets; there is sleeping, but also playing, cradling, reading, moms feeding, etc.

For several decades, the really good mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you didn’t have the funds for it, you’re stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress that later made you toss and turn at night or gave back pains. I know, because this was my issue, and before the era of “it’s all on the internet,” there just were not that many options. Given what was available, I did not have anyone to vouch for each brand’s quality .

Now, the game has completely changed with the introduction of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered directly to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name alone doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud Mattress DreamCloud Return

DreamCloud has been around for some decades, but their 2019 product really caught my attention. It is a hybrid that combines memory tech, foam, and coils — all of the things which make luxury beds — but at a reasonable price range, vacuum-packed into a box and shipped straight to your houses.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned bed with 5 layers. Each layer serves a particular purpose, so I’ll get into detail below.

Cover

The whole mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It’s soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless type of pillow-top that gives a cleaner look; but also serves to prevent shifting or losing its original shape like a conventional pillow top. The memory filling is quite dense, making it more durable than its obsolete counterpart. This outer top layer constitutes 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam that allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This makes up another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the sensation of “sinking” into the mattress, which I’ve mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which really helps in keeping cool on the bed. For those who, like me, tend to sleep hot in the course of the night, this is essential. The combination of the ventilated cover and the cooling makes a massive difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. DreamCloud Return

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing support and body to the mattress. This is especially important for heavier individuals, to keep from sinking completely into the bed. The moderate firmness of the bed is attributable to the poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly causes body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also acts as a separator for the coils underneath.

Pocketed Coils

Under the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to shift positions with ease and not feel “stuck.” Their unique pockets make it so that they can move independently, reducing motion transfer, which is a consideration for people who share beds. In the same vein, the coils are braced round the edges, strengthening the perimeter of the bed and maximizing the entire space without collapsing. The coils make up more than half of the mattress’s composition at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very bottom of this mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the foundation.

Ratings by Feature DreamCloud Return

Now that we know what is in a DreamCloud, let us see how all its elements combine in a number of the features we look for in a bed. Everyone will have a different experience when it comes to talks on firmness, mobility, pressure relief, edge support, and movement transfer, because these features are dependent on the person’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal ratings, please be aware that I weigh about 120 pounds, and am a combination back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which were mostly caused by my previous bed of over 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to notice that the bed had sagged considerably in the middle section, and I was sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of support and comfort that I am looking for. It’s firm enough to ensure that my spine is not compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I love.

I reiterate that if you’re bigger and heavier than I am, it is possible that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

Among my sleeping habits is also shifting a lot through the night. I’m a combination sleeper and change between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds which were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I tried to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this wasn’t an issue, and I could reposition easily, aided by a gentle bounce.

Stress Relief — 4 out of 5 DreamCloud Return

Different body parts exert various amounts of pressure once we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the mattress, especially for side sleepers. Being a hybrid mattress, the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently alleviate more pressure in comparison to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils offer the support for my lower back. When I’m on my side, it is comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle in the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I do not sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I attempted it; so it may be the reverse in a sense that there wasn’t any pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I am simply not used to this position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

Should you make full use of every inch of your mattress, you’d want to do it without rolling off its edges. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be quite good, but also noticed that it was better when lying down rather than when sitting on the edge, which might be due to the better distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than in one spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was a tad worried that my dog and I would be bouncing around the mattress at each move we made during our sleep, disturbing the other. I was pleasantly impressed by how well the top layers padded and muffled our moves, even when my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs about 30 kg, so I am not sure how this could translate to sharing a bed with another adult individual, but I am pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ DreamCloud Return

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Here are some FAQs for those with particular concerns.

Who would enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so satisfied with it, but like I specifiedI mostly sleep on my side and back, and wouldn’t recommend it for stomach sleepers. Those who often sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those persons who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a good option for its plush Eurotop and memory materials that give the feeling of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I have not had any pains to report.

How do I install the DreamCloud?

It’ll be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you’re extremely strong, you will need some assistance. If you’re going to be using a frame or foundation, place the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you rip it open. You will not require box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the floor). Because of the coils, be prepared for some snap when it escapes its own container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adapt to its new space. That’s it!

What is the price range?

Based on the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you’re not in any rush, you might want to wait for a discount, which they offer quite frequently on their site.

Is it a good investment? DreamCloud Return

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my old fashioned mattress. I estimate I’d have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a good investment in my book. Besides, for the luxurious sleep it has provided me in the past few weeks, it’s been more than worth the price.
