DreamCloud Return Experience

Dreamcloud-Review

Purchasing beds and mattresses used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to go to a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on various models for feel, comfort, support, and everything else that could provide a good night’s sleep. Sadly, as I am sure many people have experienced, even those steps are not guarantees, because no amount of short-term testing can adequately replicate the lives we live on our beds. Apart from spending a third of our days in that space, there’s also the matter of sharing beds with our spouses, kids, and pets; there is sleeping, but also playing, cradling, reading, mothers feeding, etc.

For several decades, the really excellent mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you didn’t have the funds for it, you’re stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress that eventually made you toss and turn at night or gave back pains. I know, since this was my problem, and before the era of “everything is on the world wide web,” there just weren’t that many options. Given what was available, I did not have anyone to vouch for each brand’s quality .

Now, the game has completely changed with the addition of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered directly to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name alone doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud Mattress DreamCloud Return Experience

DreamCloud has existed for some decades, but their 2019 product is what caught my attention. It’s a hybrid mattress that combines memory technology, foam, and coils — all of the things which make luxury beds — but at a reasonable price range, vacuum-packed into a box and sent straight to your homes.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned bed with 5 layers. Each layer serves a particular purpose, so I will get into detail below.

Cover

The entire mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It is soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless sort of pillow-top that provides a cleaner look; but also functions to prevent shifting or changing its original shape like a traditional pillow top. The memory filling is quite dense, which makes it more durable than its obsolete counterpart. This outer top layer makes up 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam which allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This makes up another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the feeling of “sinking” into the bed, which I have mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which helps in keeping cool on the mattress. For those who, like me, tend to sleep hot in the course of the night, this is essential. The combination of the ventilated cover and the cooling makes a huge difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. DreamCloud Return Experience

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing body and support to the mattress. This is particularly important for heavier people, to keep from sinking entirely into the bed. The moderate firmness of the bed is attributable to the poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly causes body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also acts as a separator for the coils underneath.

Pocketed Coils

Under the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to shift positions without difficulty and not feel “stuck.” Their unique pockets make it so that they can move independently, reducing motion transfer, which is a consideration for people who share beds. In exactly the same vein, the coils are braced around the borders, strengthening the perimeter of this bed and maximizing the whole space without collapsing. The coils make up more than half of the bed’s composition at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very bottom of this mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the foundation.

Ratings by Feature DreamCloud Return Experience

Now that we know what is in a DreamCloud, let’s see how all its components combine in a number of the attributes we look for in a bed. Everybody will have a different experience when it comes to talks on stability, freedom, pressure relief, edge support, and motion transfer, because these features are dependent on the person’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal ratings, please be aware that I weigh about 120 lbs, and am a combination back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which have been mostly due to my previous bed of more than 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to notice that the bed had sagged considerably from the middle section, and I was sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of comfort and support that I am looking for. It’s firm enough to make certain that my spine is not compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I love.

I reiterate that if you’re larger and heavier than I am, it is likely that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

One of my sleeping habits is also shifting a lot through the evening. I am a combination sleeper and change between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds that were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I tried to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this wasn’t a problem, and I could reposition easily, aided by a gentle bounce.

Pressure Relief — 4 out of 5 DreamCloud Return Experience

Different body parts exert various amounts of pressure when we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the mattress, particularly for side sleepers. Being a hybrid , the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently alleviate more pressure compared to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils offer the support for my lower back. When I am on my side, it’s comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle into the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I do not sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I attempted it; so it may be the reverse in a sense that there was no pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I am simply not used to that position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

If you make full use of every inch of your mattress, you’d want to do it without falling off its edges. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be rather good, but also noted that it was better when lying down rather than when sitting on the edge, which may be due to the more even distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than in 1 spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was somewhat worried that my dog and I’d be bouncing around the mattress at each move we made throughout our sleep, disturbing the other. I was pleasantly impressed with how well the top layers cushioned and muffled our movements, even if my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs around 30 kg, so I am not sure how this could translate to sharing a bed with another adult human, but I am pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ DreamCloud Return Experience

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Here are some FAQs for those with particular concerns.

Who would enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so satisfied with it, but like I specified: I mostly sleep on my back and side, and would not recommend it for stomach sleepers. Those who often sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those persons who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a fantastic alternative for its plush Eurotop and memory substances that provide the sensation of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I have not had any pains to report.

How do I set up the DreamCloud?

It’ll be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you are extremely strong, you will need some assistance. If you’ll be using a bed frame or foundation, put the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you rip it open. You will not need box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the flooring ). Because of the coils, be prepared for some snap when it escapes its own container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adjust to its new space. That’s it!

What is the price range?

Based on the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you’re not in any rush, you might want to wait for a promo, which they provide quite frequently on their site.

Is it a good investment? DreamCloud Return Experience

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my old fashioned mattress. I estimate I’d have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a great investment in my book. Besides, for the luxury sleep it’s provided me in the last couple of weeks, it’s been more than worth the price.
