Dreamcloud-Review

Buying mattresses and beds used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to visit a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on different models for feel, comfort, support, and everything else which could provide a fantastic night’s sleep. Sadly, as I am sure many people have experienced, even those steps are not guarantees, since no amount of short-term testing can satisfactorily replicate the lives we live on our beds. Apart from spending a third of our days in that space, there is also the matter of sharing beds with our partners, children, and pets; there is sleeping, but also playing, cradling, studying, mothers feeding, etc.

For many years, the really excellent mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you did not have the funds for it, you were stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress which eventually made you toss and turn at night or gave you back pains. I know, since this was my problem, and before the era of “everything is on the internet,” there just weren’t that many alternatives. Given what was available, I did not have anyone to vouch for each brand’s quality .

Now, the game has completely changed with the addition of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered right to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud Mattress DreamCloud Owned by Nectar

DreamCloud has been around for some decades, but their 2019 product is what caught my attention. It is a hybrid mattress that combines memory technology, foam, and coils — all of the things that make luxury beds — but at an affordable price range, vacuum-packed into a box and sent straight to your houses.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned mattress with 5 layers. Each layer serves a particular purpose, so I’ll get into detail below.

Cover

The whole mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It’s soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless sort of pillow-top that provides a cleaner look; but also serves to prevent shifting or changing its original shape like a traditional pillow top. The memory filling is quite compact, making it more durable than its obsolete counterpart. This outer top layer makes up 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam which allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This makes up another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the feeling of “sinking” into the mattress, which I have mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which helps in keeping cool on the bed. For those who, like me, tend to sleep hot in the course of the night, this is essential. The combination of the ventilated cover and the cooling makes a massive difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. DreamCloud Owned by Nectar

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing body and support to the mattress. This is especially important for heavier people, to keep from sinking entirely into the bed. The moderate firmness of the bed is attributable to the poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly causes body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also acts as a separator for the coils beneath.

Pocketed Coils

Underneath the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to change positions with ease and not feel “stuck.” Their individual pockets make it so they can move independently, reducing motion transfer, which is a consideration for people who share beds. In exactly the same vein, the coils are braced around the edges, strengthening the perimeter of the bed and maximizing the whole space without collapsing. The coils constitute more than half of the mattress’s makeup at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very base of the mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the foundation.

Ratings by Feature DreamCloud Owned by Nectar

Now that we know what is in a DreamCloud, let’s see how all its elements combine in some of the features we look for in a bed. Everybody will have a different experience when it comes to talks on firmness, freedom, pressure relief, edge support, and motion transfer, because these features are dependent on the person’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal ratings, please note that I weigh about 120 pounds, and am a mix back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which have been largely due to my previous bed of over 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to observe that the mattress had sagged considerably in the middle section, and I had been sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of support and comfort that I’m looking for. It is firm enough to make certain that my spine is not compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I love.

I reiterate that if you are bigger and heavier than I am, it is possible that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

One of my sleeping habits is also repositioning a lot during the night. I am a combination sleeper and switch between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds that were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I tried to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this was not an issue, and I could reposition easily, aided by a gentle bounce.

Stress Relief — 4 out of 5 DreamCloud Owned by Nectar

Different body parts exert various amounts of pressure once we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the bed, particularly for side sleepers. Being a hybrid mattress, the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently alleviate more pressure in comparison to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils offer the support for my lower back. When I’m on my side, it’s comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle into the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I do not sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I tried it; so it may be the opposite in a sense that there was no pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I am just not used to that position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

Should you make full use of every inch of your bed, you would want to do it without falling off its borders. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be quite good, but also noticed that it was better when lying down rather than when sitting on the edge, which might be attributed to the more even distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than in 1 spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was somewhat worried that my puppy and I would be bouncing around the mattress at every move we made during our sleep, disturbing the other. I was impressed by how well the top layers padded and muffled our moves, even if my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs about 30 kg, so I’m not sure how this could translate to sharing a bed with another adult individual, but I am pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ DreamCloud Owned by Nectar

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Here are some FAQs for those of you with particular concerns.

Who’d enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so satisfied with it, but like I specified: I mostly sleep on my back and side, and would not recommend it for stomach sleepers. Those who often sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a fantastic alternative for its plush Eurotop and memory materials that give the sensation of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I haven’t had any pains to report.

How do I install the DreamCloud?

It is going to be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you are extremely strong, you’ll need some assistance. If you’ll be using a frame or base, put the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you tear it open. You will not need box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the floor). Due to the coils, be prepared for some snap when it escapes its container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adapt to its new area. That’s it!

What’s the price range?

Depending upon the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you’re not in any rush, you might want to await a promo, which they offer quite frequently on their site.

Is it a great investment? DreamCloud Owned by Nectar

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my age-old mattress. I estimate I’d have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a good investment in my book. Besides, for the luxurious sleep it has provided me in the past couple of weeks, it has been more than worth the cost.
