DreamCloud Mattress Without Box Spring

Dreamcloud-Review

Buying beds and mattresses used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to go to a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on various kinds for feel, comfort, support, and everything else which could offer a fantastic night’s sleep. Sadly, as I am sure many people have experienced, even those steps are not guarantees, because no amount of short-term testing can satisfactorily replicate the lives we live on our beds. Aside from spending a third of our days in that area, there is also the issue of sharing beds with our spouses, kids, and pets; there’s sleeping, but also playing, cradling, reading, mothers feeding, etc.

For several years, the really excellent mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you did not have the funds for it, you were stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress which later made you toss and turn at night or gave back pains. I know, because this was my problem, and before the era of “it’s all on the internet,” there just weren’t that many options. Given what was available, I did not have anyone to vouch for every brand’s quality either.

Now, the game has completely changed with the addition of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered right to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud Mattress DreamCloud Mattress Without Box Spring

DreamCloud has been around for some years, but their 2019 product really caught my attention. It’s a hybrid that combines memory technology, foam, and coils — all of the things that make luxury beds — but at a reasonable budget, vacuum-packed into a box and shipped straight to your houses.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned bed with 5 layers. Each layer serves a specific purpose, so I will get into detail below.

Cover

The entire mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It is soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless sort of pillow-top that gives a cleaner look; but also serves to prevent shifting or losing its original shape like a conventional pillow top. The memory filling is quite dense, making it more durable than its dated counterpart. This outer top layer constitutes 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam that allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This constitutes another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the feeling of “sinking” into the mattress, which I have mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which helps in keeping cool on the bed. For those who, like me, tend to sleep hot in the course of the night, this is vital. The combination of the ventilated cover along with the cooling gel makes a massive difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. DreamCloud Mattress Without Box Spring

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing body and support to the mattress. This is especially important for heavier individuals, to keep from sinking completely into the bed. The medium firmness of the bed is attributable to this poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly leads to body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also acts as a separator for the coils underneath.

Pocketed Coils

Under the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to shift positions without difficulty and not feel “stuck.” Their individual pockets make it so that they can react independently, reducing movement transfer, which is a consideration for those who share beds. In exactly the same vein, the coils are braced round the borders, strengthening the perimeter of this bed and maximizing the entire space without collapsing. The coils make up more than half of the bed’s makeup at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very bottom of the mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the foundation.

Ratings by Feature DreamCloud Mattress Without Box Spring

Now that we know what’s in a DreamCloud, let us see how all its components combine in a number of the features we look for in a mattress. Everybody will have a different experience when it comes to talks on stability, mobility, pressure relief, edge support, and movement transfer, because these features are determined by the individual’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal ratings, please be aware that I weigh about 120 lbs, and am a combination back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which have been mostly due to my previous bed of more than 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to observe that the bed had sagged considerably from the center section, and I was sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of support and comfort that I’m searching for. It is firm enough to ensure that my spine isn’t compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I love.

I reiterate that if you’re bigger and heavier than I am, it is likely that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

Among my sleeping habits is also repositioning a lot through the evening. I am a combination sleeper and switch between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds which were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I attempted to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this wasn’t an issue, and I could reposition easily, aided by a mild bounce.

Pressure Relief — 4 out of 5 DreamCloud Mattress Without Box Spring

Different body parts exert different amounts of pressure when we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the mattress, especially for side sleepers. Being a hybrid mattress, the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently relieve more pressure in comparison to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils offer the support for my lower back. When I am on my side, it’s comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle in the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I do not sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I attempted it; so it can be the reverse in a sense that there wasn’t any pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I am just not used to that position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

If you make full use of every inch of your bed, you would want to do it without falling off its borders. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be quite good, but also noticed that it was better when lying down rather than when sitting on the edge, which may be due to the better distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than in 1 spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was a tad worried that my dog and I would be bouncing around the mattress at every move we each made during our sleep, disturbing the other. I was pleasantly impressed with how well the top layers cushioned and muffled our moves, even when my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs around 30 kg, so I am not sure how this could translate to sharing a bed with another adult individual, but I’m pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ DreamCloud Mattress Without Box Spring

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Here are some FAQs for those with particular concerns.

Who would enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so happy with it, but like I specified: I mostly sleep on my back and side, and wouldn’t recommend it for stomach sleepers. Those who often sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those persons who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a good alternative for its plush Eurotop and memory materials that provide the feeling of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I have not had any pains to report.

How do I install the DreamCloud?

It’ll be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you’re extremely strong, you’ll need some assistance. If you’re going to be using a bed frame or base, place the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you rip it open. You will not need box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the flooring ). Due to the coils, be ready for some snap as it escapes its container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adjust to its new area. That’s it!

What’s the price range?

Depending upon the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you’re not in any hurry, you may want to wait for a discount, which they offer quite frequently on their site.

Is it a good investment? DreamCloud Mattress Without Box Spring

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my old fashioned mattress. I estimate I would have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a good investment in my book. Besides, for the luxurious sleep it’s provided me in the last couple of weeks, it’s been more than worth the cost.
