Purchasing beds and mattresses used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to go to a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on various kinds for feel, comfort, support, and everything else that could offer a fantastic night’s sleep. Sadly, as I’m sure many of us have experienced, even those measures are not guarantees, because no amount of short-term testing can adequately replicate the lives we live on our beds. Aside from spending a third of our days in that area, there is also the matter of sharing beds with our partners, children, and pets; there is sleeping, but also playing, cradling, reading, moms feeding, and so on.

For many decades, the really excellent mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you didn’t have the funds for it, you were stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress which eventually made you toss and turn at night or gave you back pains. I know, because this was my problem, and before the era of “it’s all on the world wide web,” there just were not that many alternatives. Given what was available, I did not have anyone to vouch for every brand’s quality .

Now, the game has completely changed with the introduction of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered right to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud Mattress DreamCloud Mattress Reviews Bad

DreamCloud has existed for some years, but their 2019 product is what caught my attention. It’s a hybrid mattress that combines memory technology, foam, and coils — all of the things which make luxury beds — but at a reasonable price range, vacuum-packed into a box and sent straight to your houses.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned mattress with 5 layers. Each layer serves a specific purpose, so I will get into detail below.

Cover

The entire mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It’s soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless type of pillow-top that provides a cleaner look; but also serves to prevent shifting or losing its original shape like a traditional pillow top. The memory filling is quite dense, making it more durable than its obsolete counterpart. This outer top layer makes up 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam which allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This constitutes another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the sensation of “sinking” into the mattress, which I have mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which helps in keeping cool on the bed. For those who, like me, tend to sleep hot in the course of the night, this is vital. The combination of the ventilated cover and the cooling makes a massive difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. DreamCloud Mattress Reviews Bad

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing body and support to the mattress. This is especially important for heavier individuals, to keep from sinking completely into the bed. The moderate firmness of the bed is attributable to this poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly causes body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also serves as a separator for the coils underneath.

Pocketed Coils

Under the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to change positions without difficulty and not feel “stuck.” Their individual pockets make it so that they can react independently, reducing movement transfer, which is a consideration for people who share beds. In exactly the same vein, the coils are braced around the edges, strengthening the perimeter of this bed and maximizing the entire space without collapsing. The coils constitute more than half of the mattress’s makeup at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very bottom of this mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the base.

Ratings by Feature DreamCloud Mattress Reviews Bad

Now that we know what’s in a DreamCloud, let’s see how all its elements combine in some of the attributes we look for in a mattress. Everybody will have a different experience when it comes to talks on firmness, freedom, pressure relief, edge support, and movement transfer, since these features are dependent on the individual’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal ratings, please be aware that I weigh about 120 pounds, and am a mix back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which were mostly due to my previous bed of more than 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to observe that the mattress had sagged considerably from the middle section, and I had been sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of support and comfort that I am searching for. It’s firm enough to make certain that my spine isn’t compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I adore.

I reiterate that if you’re larger and heavier than I am, it is possible that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

Among my sleeping habits is also repositioning a lot during the night. I’m a combination sleeper and switch between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds that were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I attempted to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this wasn’t a problem, and I could reposition easily, aided by a mild bounce.

Stress Relief — 4 out of 5 DreamCloud Mattress Reviews Bad

Different body parts exert different amounts of pressure once we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the mattress, particularly for side sleepers. Being a hybrid , the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently relieve more pressure compared to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils provide the support for my lower back. When I am on my side, it is comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle in the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I don’t sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I tried it; so it may be the opposite in a sense that there wasn’t any pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I’m simply not used to this position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

Should you make full use of every inch of your bed, you’d want to do it without rolling off its borders. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be quite good, but also noted that it was better when lying down rather than when sitting on the edge, which may be attributed to the better distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than in one spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was somewhat worried that my puppy and I would be bouncing around the bed at every move we each made throughout our sleep, disturbing the other. I was impressed by how well the top layers padded and muffled our movements, even when my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs around 30 kg, so I’m not sure how this would translate to sharing a bed with another adult individual, but I am pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ DreamCloud Mattress Reviews Bad

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Here are some FAQs for those of you with particular concerns.

Who’d enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so happy with it, but like I specifiedI mostly sleep on my back and side, and wouldn’t recommend it for stomach sleepers. People who tend to sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a good option for its plush Eurotop and memory materials that provide the feeling of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I haven’t had any pains to report.

How do I set up the DreamCloud?

It is going to be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you are extremely strong, you’ll need some assistance. If you’ll be using a frame or foundation, place the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you rip it open. You will not require box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the floor). Due to the coils, be ready for some snap when it escapes its container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adjust to its new area. That’s it!

What is the price range?

Depending on the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you’re not in any hurry, you may want to await a discount, which they offer quite frequently on their site.

Is it a great investment? DreamCloud Mattress Reviews Bad

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my age-old mattress. I estimate I would have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a great investment in my book. Besides, for the luxurious sleep it’s provided me in the past couple of weeks, it’s been more than worth the price.
