Dreamcloud-Review

Buying beds and mattresses used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to go to a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on various models for feel, comfort, support, and everything else that could offer a fantastic night’s sleep. Sadly, as I am sure many people have experienced, even those steps aren’t guarantees, since no amount of short-term testing can satisfactorily replicate the lifestyles we live on our beds. Apart from spending a third of our days in that space, there is also the matter of sharing beds with our partners, kids, and pets; there is sleeping, but also playing, cradling, studying, mothers feeding, and so on.

For several decades, the really excellent mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you didn’t have the budget for it, you were stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress which later made you toss and turn at night or gave back pains. I know, because this was my problem, and before the era of “everything is on the world wide web,” there just weren’t that many alternatives. Given what was available, I did not have anyone to vouch for each brand’s quality .

Now, the game has completely changed with the introduction of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered right to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name alone doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud has existed for some decades, but their 2019 product is what caught my attention. It is a hybrid mattress that combines memory tech, foam, and coils — all of the things which make luxury beds — but at a reasonable price range, vacuum-packed into a box and shipped straight to your houses.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned mattress with 5 layers. Each layer serves a particular purpose, so I will get into detail below.

Cover

The whole mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It’s soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless type of pillow-top that gives a cleaner look; but also serves to prevent shifting or changing its original shape like a conventional pillow top. The memory filling is quite dense, which makes it more durable than its obsolete counterpart. This outer top layer makes up 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam which allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This makes up another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the sensation of “sinking” into the bed, which I have mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which helps in keeping cool on the bed. For those who, like me, tend to sleep hot in the course of the night, this is essential. The combination of the ventilated cover along with the cooling makes a massive difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. DreamCloud Mattress Find in Store

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing body and support to the mattress. This is especially important for heavier people, to keep from sinking completely into the bed. The medium firmness of the bed is attributable to the poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly leads to body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also acts as a separator for the coils underneath.

Pocketed Coils

Underneath the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to change positions with ease and not feel “stuck.” Their unique pockets make it so they can move independently, reducing motion transfer, which is a consideration for those who share beds. In the same vein, the coils are braced round the borders, strengthening the perimeter of the bed and maximizing the whole space without collapsing. The coils make up more than half of the bed’s composition at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very base of the mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the base.

Ratings by Feature DreamCloud Mattress Find in Store

Now that we know what is in a DreamCloud, let’s see how all its components combine in a number of the features we look for in a bed. Everybody will have a different experience when it comes to talks on firmness, freedom, pressure relief, edge support, and movement transfer, since these features are determined by the person’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal evaluations, please be aware that I weigh about 120 pounds, and am a combination back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which were mostly due to my previous bed of over 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to observe that the mattress had sagged considerably in the middle section, and I was sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of support and comfort that I am searching for. It is firm enough to make certain that my spine isn’t compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I adore.

I reiterate that if you are larger and heavier than I am, it’s likely that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

One of my sleeping habits is also shifting a lot through the night. I’m a combination sleeper and switch between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds which were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I attempted to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this was not a problem, and I could reposition easily, aided by a mild bounce.

Stress Relief — 4 out of 5 DreamCloud Mattress Find in Store

Different body parts exert various amounts of pressure once we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the bed, especially for side sleepers. Being a hybrid , the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently relieve more pressure in comparison to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils provide the support for my lower back. When I’m on my side, it’s comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle into the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I don’t sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I tried it; so it may be the opposite in a sense that there was no pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I am simply not used to that position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

Should you make full use of every inch of your mattress, you’d want to do it without rolling off its edges. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be quite good, but also noted that it was better when lying down instead of when sitting on the edge, which might be due to the better distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than in one spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was a tad worried that my puppy and I’d be bouncing around the bed at each move we made during our sleep, disturbing the other. I was pleasantly impressed by how well the top layers cushioned and muffled our movements, even if my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs around 30 kg, so I’m not sure how this could translate to sharing a bed with another adult human, but I am pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ DreamCloud Mattress Find in Store

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Here are some FAQs for those with particular concerns.

Who’d enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so happy with it, but like I specifiedI mostly sleep on my side and back, and wouldn’t recommend it for stomach sleepers. Those who often sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a fantastic option for its lavish Eurotop and memory substances that provide the feeling of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I haven’t had any pains to report.

How do I set up the DreamCloud?

It is going to be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you’re extremely strong, you’ll need some assistance. If you’ll be using a frame or foundation, place the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you tear it open. You will not need box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the flooring ). Because of the coils, be ready for some snap when it escapes its own container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adapt to its new space. That’s it!

What is the price range?

Based upon the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you are not in any hurry, you may want to wait for a promo, which they offer quite frequently on their site.

Is it a good investment? DreamCloud Mattress Find in Store

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my age-old mattress. I estimate I’d have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a great investment in my book. Besides, for the luxurious sleep it has provided me in the past couple of weeks, it has been more than worth the cost.
