DreamCloud Mattress Consumer Reports

Dreamcloud-Review

Buying beds and mattresses used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to go to a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on different models for feel, comfort, support, and everything else that could offer a good night’s sleep. Sadly, as I’m sure many of us have experienced, even those steps aren’t guarantees, because no amount of short-term testing can adequately replicate the lifestyles we live on our beds. Apart from spending a third of our days in that area, there is also the issue of sharing beds with our spouses, children, and pets; there is sleeping, but also playing, cradling, studying, moms feeding, etc.

For many years, the really excellent mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you didn’t have the budget for it, you’re stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress that later made you toss and turn at night or gave back pains. I know, since this was my problem, and before the era of “it’s all on the world wide web,” there just weren’t that many alternatives. Given what was available, I didn’t have anyone to vouch for every brand’s quality .

Now, the game has completely changed with the introduction of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered directly to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name alone doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud Mattress DreamCloud Mattress Consumer Reports

DreamCloud has existed for some years, but their 2019 product really caught my attention. It is a hybrid mattress that combines memory tech, foam, and coils — all the things which make luxury beds — but at an affordable price range, vacuum-packed into a box and sent straight to your homes.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned bed with 5 layers. Each layer serves a particular purpose, so I will get into detail below.

Cover

The entire mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It is soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless type of pillow-top that gives a cleaner look; but also serves to prevent shifting or changing its original shape like a traditional pillow top. The memory filling is quite compact, which makes it more durable than its obsolete counterpart. This outer top layer constitutes 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam that allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This constitutes another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the feeling of “sinking” into the bed, which I have mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which helps in keeping cool on the bed. For those who, like me, often sleep hot in the course of the night, this is vital. The combination of the ventilated cover and the cooling gel makes a massive difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. DreamCloud Mattress Consumer Reports

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing support and body to the mattress. This is particularly important for heavier people, to keep from sinking completely into the bed. The moderate firmness of the bed is attributable to this poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly leads to body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also acts as a separator for the coils underneath.

Pocketed Coils

Under the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to change positions with ease and not feel “stuck.” Their individual pockets make it so they can react independently, reducing motion transfer, which is a consideration for those who share beds. In the same vein, the coils are braced around the borders, strengthening the perimeter of this bed and maximizing the whole space without collapsing. The coils constitute more than half of the bed’s composition at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very base of the mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the base.

Ratings by Feature DreamCloud Mattress Consumer Reports

Now that we know what is in a DreamCloud, let’s see how all its components combine in some of the attributes we look for in a bed. Everybody will have a different experience when it comes to talks on firmness, freedom, pressure relief, edge support, and motion transfer, since these features are dependent on the individual’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal evaluations, please be aware that I weigh about 120 lbs, and am a mix back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which have been mostly due to my previous bed of over 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to notice that the mattress had sagged considerably from the middle section, and I was sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of support and comfort that I’m looking for. It’s firm enough to ensure that my spine is not compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I adore.

I reiterate that if you are larger and heavier than I am, it is likely that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

Among my sleeping habits is also shifting a lot through the night. I am a combination sleeper and change between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds which were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I attempted to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this wasn’t a problem, and I could reposition easily, aided by a gentle bounce.

Pressure Relief — 4 out of 5 DreamCloud Mattress Consumer Reports

Different body parts exert various amounts of pressure when we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the bed, especially for side sleepers. Being a hybrid mattress, the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently relieve more pressure compared to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils provide the support for my lower back. When I am on my side, it’s comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle in the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I do not sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I tried it; so it may be the opposite in a sense that there was no pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I am simply not used to this position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

Should you make full use of every inch of your bed, you’d want to do it without falling off its borders. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be rather good, but also noticed that it was better when lying down rather than when sitting on the edge, which may be due to the better distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than in one spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was a tad worried that my dog and I would be bouncing around the bed at each move we made throughout our sleep, disturbing the other. I was impressed with how well the top layers padded and muffled our moves, even when my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs around 30 kg, so I am not sure how this would translate to sharing a bed with another adult human, but I am pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ DreamCloud Mattress Consumer Reports

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Below are some FAQs for those with particular concerns.

Who’d enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so happy with it, but like I specifiedI mostly sleep on my back and side, and wouldn’t recommend it for stomach sleepers. People who tend to sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those persons who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a good alternative for its plush Eurotop and memory materials that give the sensation of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I haven’t had any pains to report.

How do I set up the DreamCloud?

It’ll be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you are extremely strong, you will need some assistance. If you’ll be using a bed frame or base, place the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you rip it open. You will not require box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the flooring ). Due to the coils, be ready for some snap as it escapes its container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adjust to its new space. That’s it!

What’s the price range?

Based on the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you’re not in any rush, you may want to wait for a promo, which they provide quite frequently on their website.

Is it a good investment? DreamCloud Mattress Consumer Reports

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my age-old mattress. I estimate I’d have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a great investment in my book. Besides, for the luxurious sleep it has provided me in the last few weeks, it has been more than worth the price.
