Dreamcloud-Review

Purchasing mattresses and beds used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to visit a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on various kinds for feel, comfort, support, and everything else which could provide a fantastic night’s sleep. Sadly, as I’m sure many people have experienced, even those measures are not guarantees, since no amount of short-term testing can satisfactorily replicate the lifestyles we live on our beds. Aside from spending a third of our days in that area, there’s also the matter of sharing beds with our spouses, children, and pets; there’s sleeping, but also playing, cradling, studying, moms feeding, etc.

For many years, the really good mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you did not have the funds for it, you’re stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress which eventually made you toss and turn at night or gave you back pains. I know, because this was my issue, and before the era of “everything is on the internet,” there just were not that many options. Given what was available, I didn’t have anyone to vouch for every brand’s quality .

Now, the game has completely changed with the introduction of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered right to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name alone doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud Mattress DreamCloud King Weight

DreamCloud has been around for some years, but their 2019 product is what caught my attention. It is a hybrid mattress that combines memory technology, foam, and coils — all of the things that make luxury beds — but at a reasonable budget, vacuum-packed into a box and shipped straight to your homes.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned bed with 5 layers. Each layer serves a particular purpose, so I’ll get into detail below.

Cover

The entire mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It’s soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless sort of pillow-top that gives a cleaner look; but also serves to prevent shifting or losing its original shape like a conventional pillow top. The memory filling is quite dense, making it more durable than its obsolete counterpart. This outer top layer constitutes 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam which allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This constitutes another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the feeling of “sinking” into the mattress, which I’ve mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which helps in keeping cool on the bed. For those who, like me, tend to sleep hot in the course of the night, this is essential. The combination of the ventilated cover and the cooling makes a huge difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. DreamCloud King Weight

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing body and support to the mattress. This is especially important for heavier individuals, to keep from sinking completely into the bed. The medium firmness of the bed is attributable to the poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly causes body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also acts as a separator for the coils underneath.

Pocketed Coils

Underneath the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to change positions with ease and not feel “stuck.” Their individual pockets make it so that they can react independently, reducing motion transfer, which is a consideration for those who share beds. In the same vein, the coils are braced round the edges, strengthening the perimeter of this bed and maximizing the entire space without collapsing. The coils constitute more than half of the bed’s composition at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very base of the mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the foundation.

Ratings by Feature DreamCloud King Weight

Now that we know what’s in a DreamCloud, let’s see how all its components combine in some of the features we look for in a bed. Everyone will have a different experience when it comes to talks on stability, mobility, pressure relief, edge support, and motion transfer, since these features are determined by the individual’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal evaluations, please be aware that I weigh roughly 120 lbs, and am a combination back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which were mostly caused by my previous bed of over 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to notice that the bed had sagged considerably from the center section, and I had been sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of support and comfort that I’m looking for. It’s firm enough to make certain that my spine isn’t compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I love.

I reiterate that if you are larger and heavier than I am, it’s likely that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

One of my sleeping habits is also shifting a lot during the evening. I’m a combination sleeper and switch between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds which were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I tried to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this was not an issue, and I could reposition easily, aided by a mild bounce.

Pressure Relief — 4 out of 5 DreamCloud King Weight

Different body parts exert various amounts of pressure when we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the bed, particularly for side sleepers. Being a hybrid mattress, the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently alleviate more pressure in comparison to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils provide the support for my lower back. When I’m on my side, it’s comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle into the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I do not sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I tried it; so it can be the reverse in a sense that there was no pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I am simply not used to that position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

Should you make full use of every inch of your bed, you’d want to do it without falling off its borders. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be rather good, but also noticed that it was better when lying down rather than when sitting on the edge, which might be due to the more even distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than at 1 spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was somewhat worried that my puppy and I’d be bouncing around the mattress at each move we made during our sleep, disturbing the other. I was impressed by how well the top layers cushioned and muffled our movements, even when my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs around 30 kg, so I’m not sure how this would translate to sharing a bed with another adult human, but I am pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ DreamCloud King Weight

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Here are some FAQs for those of you with particular concerns.

Who’d enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so satisfied with it, but like I specified: I mostly sleep on my side and back, and wouldn’t recommend it for stomach sleepers. Those who tend to sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those persons who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a good option for its lavish Eurotop and memory substances that give the feeling of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I haven’t had any pains to report.

How do I set up the DreamCloud?

It’ll be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you’re extremely strong, you will need some assistance. If you’re going to be using a frame or base, put the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you rip it open. You will not require box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the flooring ). Due to the coils, be ready for some snap as it escapes its container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adjust to its new space. That’s it!

What’s the price range?

Depending on the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you’re not in any hurry, you may want to await a discount, which they provide quite frequently on their website.

Is it a good investment? DreamCloud King Weight

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my old fashioned mattress. I estimate I would have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a great investment in my book. Besides, for the luxurious sleep it has provided me in the last few weeks, it has been more than worth the cost.
