Dreamcloud-Review

Purchasing mattresses and beds used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to go to a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on various models for feel, comfort, support, and everything else that could provide a fantastic night’s sleep. Sadly, as I am sure many of us have experienced, even those measures aren’t guarantees, since no amount of short-term testing can satisfactorily replicate the lives we live on our beds. Aside from spending a third of our days in that space, there’s also the matter of sharing beds with our spouses, kids, and pets; there’s sleeping, but also playing, cradling, studying, mothers feeding, and so on.

For several years, the really excellent mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you did not have the budget for it, you’re stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress which later made you toss and turn at night or gave back pains. I know, since this was my problem, and before the era of “it’s all on the internet,” there just were not that many options. Given what was available, I didn’t have anyone to vouch for every brand’s quality either.

Now, the game has completely changed with the introduction of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered right to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name alone doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud Mattress DreamCloud Brands

DreamCloud has existed for some years, but their 2019 product really caught my attention. It is a hybrid mattress that combines memory technology, foam, and coils — all the things which make luxury beds — but at an affordable price range, vacuum-packed into a box and shipped straight to your houses.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned mattress with 5 layers. Each layer serves a specific purpose, so I will get into detail below.

Cover

The entire mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It’s soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless type of pillow-top that gives a cleaner look; but also functions to prevent shifting or changing its original shape like a conventional pillow top. The memory filling is quite compact, making it more durable than its obsolete counterpart. This outer top layer makes up 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam that allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This constitutes another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the sensation of “sinking” into the bed, which I have mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which really helps in keeping cool on the bed. For those who, like me, often sleep hot in the course of the night, this is vital. The combination of the ventilated cover along with the cooling makes a massive difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. DreamCloud Brands

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing support and body to the mattress. This is especially important for heavier people, to keep from sinking completely into the bed. The moderate firmness of the bed is attributable to this poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly leads to body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also serves as a separator for the coils beneath.

Pocketed Coils

Under the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to shift positions without difficulty and not feel “stuck.” Their unique pockets make it so they can move independently, reducing movement transfer, which is a consideration for those who share beds. In the same vein, the coils are braced round the borders, strengthening the perimeter of the bed and maximizing the entire space without collapsing. The coils constitute more than half of the mattress’s composition at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very base of this mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the base.

Ratings by Feature DreamCloud Brands

Now that we know what’s in a DreamCloud, let us see how all its elements combine in some of the features we look for in a mattress. Everybody will have a different experience when it comes to talks on stability, freedom, pressure relief, edge support, and movement transfer, since these features are determined by the person’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal ratings, please note that I weigh about 120 lbs, and am a combination back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which were mostly caused by my previous bed of over 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to observe that the mattress had sagged considerably from the center section, and I had been sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of comfort and support that I’m looking for. It is firm enough to make certain that my spine isn’t compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I love.

I reiterate that if you are bigger and heavier than I am, it is possible that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

One of my sleeping habits is also shifting a lot during the night. I am a combination sleeper and change between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds that were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I tried to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this was not a problem, and I could reposition easily, aided by a gentle bounce.

Pressure Relief — 4 out of 5 DreamCloud Brands

Different body parts exert different amounts of pressure once we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the mattress, especially for side sleepers. Being a hybrid , the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently alleviate more pressure in comparison to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils provide the support for my lower back. When I am on my side, it is comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle in the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I don’t sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I attempted it; so it can be the opposite in a sense that there wasn’t any pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I am just not used to that position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

Should you make full use of every inch of your mattress, you’d want to do it without rolling off its borders. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be rather good, but also noticed that it was better when lying down instead of when sitting on the edge, which may be due to the more even distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than at 1 spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was somewhat worried that my dog and I would be bouncing around the mattress at each move we made throughout our sleep, disturbing the other. I was impressed with how well the top layers cushioned and muffled our moves, even when my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs around 30 kg, so I’m not sure how this would translate to sharing a bed with another adult human, but I’m pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ DreamCloud Brands

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Below are some FAQs for those of you with particular concerns.

Who would enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so satisfied with it, but like I specified: I mostly sleep on my back and side, and wouldn’t recommend it for stomach sleepers. People who often sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a fantastic option for its lavish Eurotop and memory substances that give the feeling of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I have not had any pains to report.

How do I install the DreamCloud?

It’ll be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you’re extremely strong, you’ll need some assistance. If you’ll be using a frame or foundation, place the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you tear it open. You will not need box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the floor). Because of the coils, be prepared for some snap as it escapes its own container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adjust to its new area. That’s it!

What’s the price range?

Depending upon the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you’re not in any rush, you may want to wait for a discount, which they provide quite frequently on their website.

Is it a great investment? DreamCloud Brands

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my age-old mattress. I estimate I’d have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a great investment in my book. Besides, for the luxury sleep it’s provided me in the past couple of weeks, it’s been more than worth the cost.
