Dreamcloud-Review

Purchasing mattresses and beds used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to go to a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on different kinds for feel, comfort, support, and everything else that could provide a fantastic night’s sleep. Sadly, as I am sure many people have experienced, even those measures are not guarantees, because no amount of short-term testing can adequately replicate the lifestyles we live on our beds. Aside from spending a third of our days in that area, there’s also the issue of sharing beds with our partners, kids, and pets; there’s sleeping, but also playing, cradling, reading, mothers feeding, and so on.

For many years, the really excellent mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you did not have the budget for it, you’re stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress that eventually made you toss and turn at night or gave back pains. I know, because this was my issue, and before the era of “it’s all on the internet,” there just weren’t that many options. Given what was available, I did not have anyone to vouch for every brand’s quality either.

Now, the game has completely changed with the addition of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered directly to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name alone doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud Mattress DreamCloud Brands San Mateo

DreamCloud has existed for some years, but their 2019 product really caught my attention. It’s a hybrid mattress that combines memory technology, foam, and coils — all the things that make luxury beds — but at a reasonable price range, vacuum-packed into a box and shipped straight to your houses.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned mattress with 5 layers. Each layer serves a particular purpose, so I’ll get into detail below.

Cover

The entire mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It’s soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless sort of pillow-top that provides a cleaner look; but also functions to prevent shifting or losing its original shape like a traditional pillow top. The memory filling is quite compact, which makes it more durable than its dated counterpart. This outer top layer makes up 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam which allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This constitutes another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the feeling of “sinking” into the mattress, which I’ve mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which really helps in keeping cool on the bed. For those who, like me, often sleep hot in the course of the night, this is vital. The combination of the ventilated cover along with the cooling gel makes a massive difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. DreamCloud Brands San Mateo

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing support and body to the mattress. This is particularly important for heavier individuals, to keep from sinking completely into the bed. The medium firmness of the bed is attributable to the poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly causes body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also acts as a separator for the coils beneath.

Pocketed Coils

Underneath the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to change positions with ease and not feel “stuck.” Their unique pockets make it so they can move independently, reducing motion transfer, which is a consideration for those who share beds. In the same vein, the coils are braced round the borders, strengthening the perimeter of the bed and maximizing the whole space without collapsing. The coils constitute more than half of the bed’s makeup at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very bottom of the mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the foundation.

Ratings by Feature DreamCloud Brands San Mateo

Now that we know what is in a DreamCloud, let’s see how all its components combine in a number of the attributes we look for in a bed. Everyone will have a different experience when it comes to talks on firmness, freedom, pressure relief, edge support, and motion transfer, because these features are determined by the individual’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal evaluations, please note that I weigh about 120 lbs, and am a mix back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which were mostly due to my previous bed of over 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to observe that the mattress had sagged considerably in the center section, and I had been sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of comfort and support that I am looking for. It is firm enough to ensure that my spine isn’t compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I adore.

I reiterate that if you are bigger and heavier than I am, it is likely that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

One of my sleeping habits is also shifting a lot through the evening. I am a combination sleeper and change between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds which were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I tried to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this wasn’t a problem, and I could reposition easily, aided by a gentle bounce.

Stress Relief — 4 out of 5 DreamCloud Brands San Mateo

Different body parts exert different amounts of pressure when we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the mattress, especially for side sleepers. Being a hybrid , the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently relieve more pressure in comparison to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils provide the support for my lower back. When I’m on my side, it is comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle into the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I do not sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I attempted it; so it can be the reverse in a sense that there wasn’t any pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I’m just not used to that position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

Should you make full use of every inch of your mattress, you’d want to do it without falling off its borders. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be quite good, but also noticed that it was better when lying down rather than when sitting on the edge, which may be due to the more even distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than at 1 spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was somewhat worried that my puppy and I’d be bouncing around the mattress at every move we each made during our sleep, disturbing the other. I was impressed by how well the top layers padded and muffled our movements, even if my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs around 30 kg, so I’m not sure how this would translate to sharing a bed with another adult individual, but I am pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ DreamCloud Brands San Mateo

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Below are some FAQs for those of you with particular concerns.

Who would enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so happy with it, but like I specifiedI mostly sleep on my side and back, and wouldn’t recommend it for stomach sleepers. Those who tend to sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those persons who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a good option for its lavish Eurotop and memory substances that provide the feeling of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I haven’t had any pains to report.

How do I set up the DreamCloud?

It’ll be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you are extremely strong, you will need some assistance. If you’ll be using a bed frame or foundation, put the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you tear it open. You will not require box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the floor). Due to the coils, be ready for some snap when it escapes its container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adapt to its new space. That’s it!

What is the price range?

Based upon the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you are not in any rush, you may want to await a discount, which they provide quite frequently on their website.

Is it a good investment? DreamCloud Brands San Mateo

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my age-old mattress. I estimate I’d have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a great investment in my book. Besides, for the luxurious sleep it has provided me in the last few weeks, it has been more than worth the price.
