DreamCloud Adjustable Base Review

Dreamcloud-Review

Buying beds and mattresses used to be a tedious process of trial and error. First, one had to find the time to visit a physical store, and then spend hours laying, pressing, and bouncing on different kinds for feel, comfort, support, and everything else which could provide a fantastic night’s sleep. Sadly, as I’m sure many of us have experienced, even those steps are not guarantees, because no amount of short-term testing can adequately replicate the lifestyles we live on our beds. Aside from spending a third of our days in that space, there’s also the matter of sharing beds with our spouses, kids, and pets; there is sleeping, but also playing, cradling, studying, mothers feeding, and so on.

For many years, the really good mattresses cost an arm and a leg for the technologies used in their design. If you did not have the funds for it, you were stuck with your run-of-the-mill mattress which eventually made you toss and turn at night or gave you back pains. I know, since this was my issue, and before the era of “it’s all on the world wide web,” there just were not that many options. Given what was available, I did not have anyone to vouch for each brand’s quality either.

Now, the game has completely changed with the introduction of luxury beds-in-boxes, available online and delivered right to your doorstep. One such company that has risen in popularity is the DreamCloud Mattress, and if the name alone doesn’t entice you, allow me to break it down.

DreamCloud Mattress DreamCloud Adjustable Base Review

DreamCloud has been around for some decades, but their 2019 product really caught my attention. It is a hybrid mattress that combines memory tech, foam, and coils — all of the things which make luxury beds — but at a reasonable price range, vacuum-packed into a box and shipped straight to your homes.

Components

The DreamCloud is a 15-inch, 2-toned mattress with 5 layers. Each layer serves a particular purpose, so I will get into detail below.

Cover

The entire mattress is covered in a blend of cashmere and polyester, giving it a plush and luxurious feel. It’s soft, breathable, and quilted with memory material. This makes it a EuroTop, a more seamless type of pillow-top that gives a cleaner look; but also functions to prevent shifting or changing its original shape like a traditional pillow top. The memory filling is quite compact, making it more durable than its dated counterpart. This outer top layer constitutes 1.5 inches of the composition.

Memory Gel

The 2nd layer is a gel-infused memory foam that allows body contouring and provides pressure relief. This makes up another 1.5 inches of the mattress.

Body contouring gives the feeling of “sinking” into the mattress, which I’ve mostly associated with 5-star hotel beds. The gel swirl dissipates heat, which really helps in keeping cool on the bed. For those who, like me, tend to sleep hot in the course of the night, this is essential. The combination of the ventilated cover along with the cooling makes a huge difference, and I don’t wake up sweaty before the crack of dawn. DreamCloud Adjustable Base Review

Poly Foam

The layer underneath the gel foam is a slightly firmer foam, providing support and body to the mattress. This is especially important for heavier individuals, to keep from sinking entirely into the bed. The moderate firmness of the bed is attributable to the poly foam, counteracting sagging, which commonly causes body pains. This 2.5-inch layer also serves as a separator for the coils beneath.

Pocketed Coils

Underneath the high-density foam are individually wrapped coils. These modern versions of springs equip the mattress with mobility, allowing sleepers to shift positions with ease and not feel “stuck.” Their unique pockets make it so that they can react independently, reducing motion transfer, which is a consideration for people who share beds. In the same vein, the coils are braced around the borders, strengthening the perimeter of the bed and maximizing the whole space without collapsing. The coils make up more than half of the bed’s makeup at 8 inches.

Base Foam

At the very base of the mattress is 1.5 inches of firm foam. This serves to cushion the coils and act as the foundation.

Ratings by Feature DreamCloud Adjustable Base Review

Now that we know what is in a DreamCloud, let’s see how all its components combine in some of the attributes we look for in a bed. Everybody will have a different experience when it comes to talks on firmness, mobility, pressure relief, edge support, and movement transfer, since these features are dependent on the individual’s body weight, build, and sleeping preferences. To help understand my personal ratings, please note that I weigh roughly 120 lbs, and am a mix back and side sleeper, often favoring the latter.

Firmness — 5 out of 5

I start with this because I have lower back problems, which were largely caused by my previous bed of over 1 decade. I didn’t take the time to observe that the mattress had sagged considerably in the center section, and I had been sleeping with poor skeletal support.

The DreamCloud has medium firmness, which gives me the adequate balance of support and comfort that I’m looking for. It’s firm enough to make certain that my spine is not compromised, and factoring in its Eurotop cover, gives me a nice “sinking into the bed” feel that I love.

I reiterate that if you are larger and heavier than I am, it is likely that the DreamCloud may feel softer, as your body sinks more significantly into the mattress.

Mobility — 5 out of 5

Among my sleeping habits is also shifting a lot through the night. I’m a combination sleeper and change between back and side sleeping. I’ve had beds which were too soft and static that made it feel like drowning when I attempted to move slightly. On the DreamCloud, this wasn’t a problem, and I could reposition easily, aided by a gentle bounce.

Pressure Relief — 4 out of 5 DreamCloud Adjustable Base Review

Different body parts exert various amounts of pressure once we lay in bed. Hips and shoulders have more contact with the bed, especially for side sleepers. Being a hybrid , the Eurotop and memory materials allow some sinkage into its foam layers, and consequently relieve more pressure in comparison to firmer alternatives. When sleeping on my back, I feel an even distribution of my weight, and the coils provide the support for my lower back. When I’m on my side, it’s comfortable enough for my shoulders and hips to snuggle into the mattress whilst keeping my spine aligned. I don’t sleep on my stomach much, but I felt like I sank too much when I attempted it; so it can be the reverse in a sense that there wasn’t any pressure to the point of sinkage. That, or I am simply not used to that position.

Edge Support — 4 out of 5

Should you make full use of every inch of your mattress, you’d want to do it without falling off its borders. I found the DreamCloud’s stability to be rather good, but also noticed that it was better when lying down instead of when sitting on the edge, which might be attributed to the more even distribution of my weight when spread across a larger area than at 1 spot.

Motion Transfer — 5 out of 5

Having coils, I was a tad worried that my dog and I would be bouncing around the mattress at each move we each made during our sleep, disturbing the other. I was impressed by how well the top layers cushioned and muffled our movements, even when my dog jumped on the bed while I was on it. My dog is a medium and weighs around 30 kg, so I’m not sure how this could translate to sharing a bed with another adult individual, but I am pretty happy about this for my own needs.

Final Remarks and FAQ DreamCloud Adjustable Base Review

It is utterly important to choose the right bed to make sure you’ll be safe from back pains and get good quality sleep. If you want to live a long and healthy life, sleep has got to be a priority. You’ve just read my reviews on each of the features of DreamCloud, and I’d say that all in all, it is definitely a reliable brand.

That sums up my experience with my 1st ever hybrid bed-in-a-box. Here are some FAQs for those of you with particular concerns.

Who’d enjoy the DreamCloud?

I’m so satisfied with it, but like I specified: I mostly sleep on my side and back, and would not recommend it for stomach sleepers. Those who often sleep hot will also enjoy the gel-infused memory foam. For those persons who are fond of the luxury feel of excellent hotel beds, this is a fantastic alternative for its lavish Eurotop and memory substances that give the sensation of being cradled in clouds. Back support is wonderful, and I have not had any pains to report.

How do I set up the DreamCloud?

It is going to be delivered in a box, and is quite heavy; so unless you’re extremely strong, you will need some assistance. If you’re going to be using a bed frame or base, place the vacuum-sealed mattress on it before you rip it open. You will not require box springs, but this fits most standard sizes; additionally, this can be used on any flat surface (even the floor). Because of the coils, be ready for some snap as it escapes its container. Allow up to 48 hours for it to completely reshape and adjust to its new space. That’s it!

What is the price range?

Depending upon the size, they range from $799 for a Twin up to $1,499 for a King or California King. If you are not in any rush, you might want to await a promo, which they provide quite frequently on their site.

Is it a great investment? DreamCloud Adjustable Base Review

For me, it was definitely leaps and bounds better than my old fashioned mattress. I estimate I would have at least a decade with this one, so that counts as a good investment in my book. Besides, for the luxurious sleep it’s provided me in the past couple of weeks, it has been more than worth the price.
